POSHAAK (about the garment): This bright yellow dupatta has 2 antique Chikankari motifs - Paan and Chaand. Both motifs have very intricate detailing inside them. The bootas are placed on diagonal ends of the dupatta, & the body is filled with 3 miniature motif cluster all through. The dupatta, with its Zari Gold & Silver border, is a piece of stunning wearable art, that one can pass from generation to generation.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. The shade chart of the colour Green you can get in Lucknow's own lingo, are endless. Dhaani, Elaichi, Khus, Panna, Aam Pana, Jaljeera, Pistai...phew the list is endless. As soon as one would refer to a Pistai colour for even textiles, the mind would wander to the sweetness of Pista Kulfi, that brings immense joy in harsh summer months, and that feeling propels to shop window for the colour that is evocative towards the said memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Champaai is a coloquial and beautiful colour name for White, and is commonly used in Lucknow's language. Champaai is used to describe anything that is beautiful, soft & pristine white, like Champa flowers. This word has been often used to describe lovely feet of ladies or their glowing complexion, by the poets of Lucknow; on the other hand, it has also been used to describe the all White on White Chikankari attire worn by a lady of society, who further decorates herself with pearls and diamonds. Her clothes are then called "Champaai Joda" (all white ensemble). While it could be said "Safed Joda", calling it Champaai makes it even more poetic, & shows appreciation for the styling done by the lady. This was the inspiration behind this soft jewel of a dupatta.

KHAYAL (Mood-board):
The elusive Brahmakamal, is an ancient celestial Indian flower, that is considered extremely auspicious to be offered to our prime deities. The reason behind this is its rarity of blooming in just one night between the period of late summer & early autumn, and that too in the higher Himalayas of Uttarakhand. Our scriptures revere this Brahmakamal as divine and celestial, due to this rarity. Various ancient texts of India and Tibet have mentioned its amazing therapeutic properties that can cure many fatal diseases.
Brahmakamal is that flora of our land, which was deemed as the best kept mystery of the natural secret garden of the Himalayas. We spotted some rare Brahmakamal in our many travels to the higher Himalayas, and envisioned them in the craft of Chikankari.
POSHAAK (About the garment):
As the name suggests, we envisioned this saree in pure, pristine and pearly white. Our immediate thought was using the purest Organza Silk as the base to display the snow capped peaks of Higher Himalayas, but with a mystique; hence, Organza was the choice.
The motif chosen for this saree was one that had to have a Brahmakamal like shape, which we luckily found in an old border motif. The best of stitches were brainstormed, which would bring alive this artwork. After the magnificent border, the palla was adorned with snowflake like motif to showcase the presence of the blooms in the higher altitudes of Himalayas. The rest of the body has smaller motifs. Stars of Mukaish are scattered through the saree like fireflies in the mountains glowing like celestial lamps on a full moon night!!

KHAYAL (moodboard): Deepmala translates to a "Garland of Diyas" or Earthen lamps, one of the most therapeutic and energising sights of Deepawali festival. There is not one soul who can say that the lit rows of Diyas with their soulful flame does not invoke a sense of calmness, positivity, love and joy. It is one of those moments of joy that is not ephemeral. Do you know why? Because the silent flame of the Diya makes you realise that this is how your Aatman is inside your Body. The realisation brings the relativity & connectivity!! We wanted to capture the glow of Diyas on a Diwali night through a Mukaish creation, and here we did it through DeepMala.

We used our Shahi Paan motif and filled it inside with small Kairi paisley motifs. The outside border of the Paan has stunning Jaali work one such a large surface, a one of a kind piece of art visible no where. The border is further decorated with extremely tough Murri stitch. KHAYAL (moodboard): Have you ever seen Lucknow's famous 500 plus year old dessert recipe, Malai Gilauri? For those who have not, it is Malai or Khurchan cooked over hours, that is removed from the sides of a paan, when cooled down. The layer of cooked Malai is then decorated with many beautiful condiments - pistachios, almonds, sugar, kewra water - before rolling into a Gilauri. The process just before making the Gilauri is a beautiful sight. This motif with the finest stitches of most beautiful & complex embroidery, and Jaali stitch, reminds us of the Gilauri, just before getting folded and bound into a mouthful of sweet bliss.

The Rajasthani Floral art of Amer motif has mesmerised us, since we first laid eyes on it, during our travel in 2010. It is simple, yet an attractive motif of a flower vase encased inside an aala. The original motif is made using molten glass as paint. We always wanted to showcase this motif in a Muakish saree in exactly the manner of the original artwork in Amer Fort.
This saree is reminiscent of the Maharanis of India & their Royal Splendour. The dainty Organza or Chiffon sarees, the delicate Mukaish embroidery on them, the vintage Basra pearls around their slender necks and their regal style!! One of our most beautiful memories of a past gone by.

Clouds of White Organza are held down with the glamour of Gold!!
Amer Mukaish or Kaamdaani Saree has Meiraas Exclusive motif of a flower vase encased inside an aala, as seen in Amer Fort. The saree has this grand and exclusive motif on the Palla. The Rest of this showstopper concept saree has dainty Mukaish daana all over.
Imp: While the saree images here show scalloping on the palla, we will instead finish the saree with white silk selvedge.
The saree can be dyed and made also on request in a colour patron chooses.

Golden Trellis is a result of, one of the many research projects we are working upon simultaneously. We know some might not see light of the day (although we firmly believe that everything can be revived if we just have the right patience and the will to keep going), some will prove to be false tales - a mirage of a narrative built for dramatic value and nothing more...but some, like Golden Trellis will be a reality that can be translated to fabric yet again, even if in a small way, or a shadow of its one time glory...at least there will be a start.

Heritage Mukaish work re created: This work comes under Kamdani Embroidery. The name we have given to this particular style is "glasswork", after we got our Amer saree designed in same stitch. This is due to the fact, that we get it especially rubbed in ghutaai process to get the metal wires to shine like molten glass (we wanted the molten glass painting look of Amer Fort art). This is extremely dexterous work and is done on miniature motif style to ensure its wearability on multiple occasions, instead of it being relegated for very few. This work was historically done in Lucknow. What can be better sustainability than finding out a lost artwork in a craft & helping revive it again to wearable pieces, & most importantly in pieces that can be part of today's Heritage Builders' private collection; this will ensure the craft's continued sustainability.
Mukaish Hand Embroidery with proper "ghutaai" - this means Mukaish embroidery has been rubbed using old technique of filling pebbles in a bottle and rubbing on the embroidery, instead of new age roller press method. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaining the look of the garment for much longer time.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Poetry etched in fabric, Golden Trellis alludes to the once opulent courts of the ancient royalties of India. Trellis is the jaali like window pattern, a signature architecture in heritage monuments of the Golden Era. This museum quality piece of legacy bound, wearable art will a pride for any one who owns it.

The Rajasthani Floral art of Amer motif has mesmerised us, since we first laid eyes on it, during our travel in 2010. It is simple, yet an attractive motif of a flower vase encased inside an aala. The original motif is made using molten glass as paint. We always wanted to showcase this motif in a Muakish saree in exactly the manner of the original artwork in Amer Fort.
The Golden Trellis motif is designed after the round Trellis water reserve covers designed so aesthetically in Amer Fort!! It was a sheer delight to see the level of Indian Art & Aesthetic sense to even design an otherwise drab water reserve tops with such skill.
This saree is reminiscent of the Maharanis of India & their Royal Splendour. The dainty Organza or Chiffon sarees, the delicate Mukaish embroidery on them, the vintage Basra pearls around their slender necks and their regal style!! One of our most beautiful memories of a past gone by.

Amer Mukaish or Kaamdaani Saree has Meiraas Exclusive motif of a flower vase encased inside an aala, as seen in Amer Fort. The saree has this grand and exclusive motif on the Palla. The Rest of this showstopper concept saree has dainty Mukaish daana all over.
In between these Mukaish daana however lies the real beauty - The circular Golden Trellis or round diskettes made in rarest of rare - Kamdaani Jaali Embroidery!! A one of a kind rarity!!
Imp: While the saree images here show scalloping on the palla, we will instead finish the saree with white silk selvedge only.
The saree can be dyed and made also on request in a colour patron chooses.
Storage: Please store safely in the cloth bag we provide. Air it after every few months.

Golden Trellis is a result of, one of the many research projects we are working upon simultaneously. We know some might not see light of the day (although we firmly believe that everything can be revived if we just have the right patience and the will to keep going), some will prove to be false tales - a mirage of a narrative built for dramatic value and nothing more...but some, like Golden Trellis will be a reality that can be translated to fabric yet again, even if in a small way, even if a shadow of its one time glory...at least there will be a start.

Heritage Mukaish work re created: This work is known as Satkhani jaali. It has not been done in India or is extremely rarely done anymore. This is Jaali work done in Mukaish. Its karigars are not alive now, and some of the karigars who learnt this art do not work in India. This was re created when one of them came on a small visit to his family in India. He has taught some amount of work to our small group of artisans in Lucknow. This work was historically done in Lucknow only. What can be better sustainability than finding out a lost artwork in a craft & helping revive it again to wearable pieces, & most importantly in pieces that can be part of today's heritage builders' private wardrobe; this will ensure the craft's continued sustainability.
Mukaish Hand Embroidery with proper "ghutaai" - this means Mukaish embroidery has been rubbed using old technique of filling pebbles in a bottle and rubbing on the embroidery, instead of new age roller press method. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaing the look of the garment for much longer time.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Poetry etched in fabric, Golden Trellis alludes to the once opulent courts of the ancient royalties of India. Trellis is the jaali like window pattern, a signature architecture in heritage monuments of the Golden Era. This museum quality piece of legacy bound, wearable art will a pride for any one who owns it.
POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Handloom Pure Organza Dupatta embroidered beautifully with the rare & precious Golden Moon made in Satkhaani Jaali style. A tiki dot finishes the moon like a bindi finishes a beautiful face. A historic dupatta, that will always be the pride of the owner & will remain as part of handpicked private collection.

This is a very complex embroidery where Mukaish wires are embroidered one on top of another to make a mesh trellis patten & is then interlocked within a ring. KHAYAAL (moodboard):"Summers in 1980s Lucknow meant, the whole family sleeping on the terrace at night. While one reason could be that power cuts were frequent then, another reason was its charm of sleeping under the open sky. Nani's house was a treat for me in this respect, whenever we stayed there. We would sleep under the stars, all cousins and elders around on their own charpais. Papa would take this as a moment to show me stars, planets, moon, the Milky Way, etc etc. It was fascinating & I deeply miss those innocent times. Nakshatra is a product of that reverie. Designing Nakshatra was always a dream, ever since I started working with Mukaish craft. The stars of Mukaish say so much to me than just metallic embellishments. They remind me of shooting stars, sun shining on dewdrops, planets, forces that are beyond our comprehension, and we can only see them as glittering dots, because we are limited in our scope to understand energies. This was the thought with which I explored Nakshatra.The Golden Trellis was the perfect embroidery to try this design intervention. I conceptualised a Celestial Trinity of the Sun, the Moon and the Planet to denote the Nakshatra and set it on a bed of stars in the sky in the form of this beautiful Organza Saree.I wish the patron wears it in an enchanting dinner place, under open clear sky, with millions of stars, a glass of wine and good company at hand and have a soulful time to remember & cherish forever." - Vidhi, Head of Creative, Meiraas

This dark black sky of a soft cloudy Organza Saree has the Constellation in the form of - the Sun, the Moon & the Planet in Golden Trellish Kaamdaani embroidery. These motifs are heavily on the palla only, and the rest of the body has stars of Mukaish scattered all over its vast dark expanse.
We have finished it with Mulberry Silk selvedge in same colour.
