" This saree was love at first sight for me! Two sweet Rajkot Patola weavers met me sometime back and opened their treasure box full of most supple soft silk sarees. That was my first introduction to Patola weave. Later I found that Patola sarees are woven in two towns in Gujarat - Rajkot & Patan. The Patan Patola is hands down the most premium version with its double Ikat starting in lakhs. The Rajkot Patola is its cousin, that though not as regal as its rich counterpart, is still one of most supple and graceful weaves. This is a Single Ikat Rajkot Patola with lovely highlights of Gold and Burnt Orange on glistening black pure silk body. The saree is incredibly soft and its pleats form & fall like a poem. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaing the look of the garment for much longer time.

Lucknow - a city of Gold & Silver!! In Kenize Mourad's historical part history part fiction "In the City of Gold & Silver", Lucknow amongst Awadh is detailed as a land of Gold & Silver symbiotic. It is a symbolism for the syncretic culture of Awadh, where two ideologies or thoughts had a place to survive together. It also symbolises the rich court of Awadh dynasty, where the aristocracy spent its days in the riches that the fertile Indo Gangetic plains yielded, and immersed themselves in Art, Culture, Music, Poetry. The book had a profound effect on us to create two such weaves - Gold Zari Silk & Silver Zari Silk. A symbol of the now lost Awadh.
POSHAAK (about the saree):
Gold Zari Silk Dupatta is a unique weave commissioned by Meiraas. Pure Zari in Taana, Pure Zari in Baana & little bit of Pure Silk to bind this Work of Art together. The Rich Weave has been then adorned with Resham Chikankari in Heritage motifs. This is a first time such a dupatta has ever been made in Chikankari, & likely this status will remain for a long time. The richness of the weave & Embroidery will be more enhanced when the dupatta is in the hands of the patron, it is like wearing a sheet of Molten Gold. The dupatta has vintage CROWN motif that dates back almost 2 centuries & was literally dug out from the rubble like a relic of archeology. - Artisan Skill enhancement: Revival of old Bijli boota (named by Artisan), commissioned and researched by Meiraas from old archived images of Chikankari.
- Archival Project: The motif on the sleeve is 200 years old at least (please see Reels on Meiraas IG to see the make and texture of old wooden motif). Revival of front & back motif with reference from Chikankari archives.
- Handloom Cotton fabric
- Minimalist pattern of dress makes the heritage motifs more usable, as they are intricate and delicate and cannot be used in current work style of fast and rough work.
- Handmade in India
- The length is 49 inches and reaches on the lower calf, you can have this reduced as per your height as the dress is Made on Order.
- Colours can be customised (Azo Free Only) as the dress is Made on Order, along with the embroidery colour. Please DM on Meiraas IG, or Whatsapp at 9810119795 for more.
- Chikankari garments are translucent by nature as they are mostly made on lighter cottons & in natural white or pastel shades. To wear a slip/layering inner wear underneath is subjective to the wearer's comfort. We are only providing the dress.

The Sustainability Quotient (SQ):
1. Upcycled Blouse (this blouse is made out of a Rajnigandha Saree that had a minor flaw while embroidering by the artisan. We did not let the precious work go waste & paid the artisan appropriately for their work. However since we could not sell the garment as a saree, we made beautiful Blouses from the fabric instead.) If these blouses generate good demand, then we can make them on order as well, thereby creating a new product & another revenue stream for the artisans and us.
2. Bio Washed : Washed without using Acid in Mother Gomati river; the fabric was washed in our facility in Gurgaon using Natural Ingredients. The water used in washing was later boiled & filtered and re used in small odd jobs or mopping of floors.3. Masterclass tailoring: Blouse is well lined & has sufficient margins to enable alterations, which allows us making less pieces & catering to more demand.

"Not all rebel without a cause; not all rebellion is aggressive in its tone. I have always been a silent rebel while growing up. What does that mean? I am absolutely fine with following handed down traditions, yet I will love to alter patterns to suit a more current or versatile way of thinking & living; an approach that is all inclusive and increases happiness and wholesomeness. If life should be like this, then why not clothes, that form an integral & inseparable part of everyday life, the faces of our personalities. I brought my silent rebellion to my design table when I found Meiraas. Maybe this is the reason why today in such a short span and amidst burgeoning competition I keep getting messages that applaud the clearly differentiated look of Meiraas Chikankari or Shibori or Mukaish, and yet marvel at the core essence of the craft that remains as it is - A rebel, but one with a cause.Â
This Crop Top, was crafted with flirty flared Kota sleeves and a sweetheart neckline. The idea was to create a typically cottagecore Top that transcends beautifully from Western Wear to Indian Traditional Wear, something more versatile and inclusive. POSHAAK (about the dress): The Cotton Silk Blouse is upcycled from a freshly embroidered Rajnigandha Saree that was unfortunately torn in the process of making, from one corner. We created a completely new category out of it, without wasting the precious embroidery and human hours invested in the creating the dainty embroidery, with this essential blouse. It is natural white colour of Kota Doria with beautiful embroidery. The Blouse is fully lined in the body with soft Cotton lining to give a good fall & fit. The sleeves are left unlined, gossamer & fun. The hook loops are at the back. The neck is sweetheart and shows off the décolletage beautifully.

I have often talked on Meiraas Instagram about her "Classic White Blouse" that she paired with many printed & coloured sarees. It was just like the basic white button down we grew up treating as essential in our Corporate Wardrobes. I wanted to create many versions of Vidya ji's classic white style, & this one is a more elegant Cotton Silk version with allover embroidery that can be paired with colourful cotton or pastel cotton silks or even jewel coloured silks to balance them out." - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Design, Meiraas
