Gender Fluid KHAYAL (mood-board): Chikankari has been seen as the summer wear for the past 100-150 years or so. However, the embroidery in itself, has enough mettle to be practised with perfect finesse on various fabrics. This has been the endeavour of Meiraas since our inception. We wanted to make this Craft more fluid to other seasons as well, as Chikankari represents the silent art of tone on tone classic beauty, that is endearing to almost everyone in every season. It speaks of class, elegance, discerning taste and grace. Its foray into Shawls was more ordained than ever imagined. We had started working on Chikankari Shawls since 2017, but the perfecting of its form happened now. • Hand Picked Ancient Archived Motifs.
  • Conceptual and Exclusive Chikankari Artwork on Zari Silk fabric.

KHYAAL (moodboard):

Lucknow - a city of Gold & Silver!! In Kenize Mourad's historical part history part fiction "In the City of Gold & Silver", Lucknow amongst Awadh is detailed as a land of Gold & Silver symbiotic. It is a symbolism for the syncretic culture of Awadh, where two ideologies or thoughts had a place to survive together. It also symbolises the rich court of Awadh dynasty, where the aristocracy spent its days in the riches that the fertile Indo Gangetic plains yielded, and immersed themselves in Art, Culture, Music, Poetry. The book had a profound effect on us to create two such weaves - Gold Zari Silk & Silver Zari Silk. A symbol of the now lost Awadh.

POSHAAK (about the saree):

The beautiful Miniature Jaali zari silk shawl, is embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work. The antique miniature motif has been used to create this gorgeous shawl, that features stitches like - Zari Taar (Qasab) Jaali, Ghaspatti, Orma, Phanda, Kaante, etc. The shawl is scattered neatly with this miniature motif artwork all over. It is a stunning piece of drape to layer over Indian dresses, or even that black dress for a formal dinner out! It is a visual treat for any connoisseur of fine Chikankari craft. It is extremely difficult to work on full Zari Silk Chikankari pieces, because of many reasons:
  1. The fabric reflects light back, making it impossible to work in full light, hence it needs perfect light setting in a room and extremely skilled artisans to make it.
  2. Such fabric requires enormous dexterity and a very fine level of craftsmanship, therefore the number of artisans working on it are just 1-2 only. This means it takes more time than other sarees
Words will fall short in the praise of this exquisite beauty of a drape!! Some of these motifs are centuries old, and some freshly carved looking at centuries old motifs. A rare piece of Art. This shawl is a timeless heirloom that you would like to pass on generation after generation. This Shawl will pair fabulously with Noir Rhapsody tunic If you purchase it along with Noir Rhapsody kurta, then a pair of glazed cotton pants to match will also be complimentary. P.S: If you are noticing dark patches anywhere in the pictures, then that is the Zari reflecting the light back to the camera, and this is not present on the shawl. Avoid moisture seeping into such pieces. Always store them in a dry place and in the Meiraas bag we deliver them in. Keep opening Silk Fabrics in every 6 months and changing its folds.

KHAYAAL (Mood-board): Gold on Gold tone Chikankari was a dream drape, that we could only imagine a Goddess draping on herself. Our moodboard was a wrap that is rich like molten gold, embroidered like it is carved using finest craftsmanship on gold, malleable like it is a rich gold lava flowing... This is what shaped the Shahi Paan Gold Wrap/Shawl. We wanted a drape so exceedingly rich & lustrous, and yet so incredibly detailed with antique quality Chikankari, that it makes hearts stop. POSHAAK (About the garmemt): The stunning Shahi Paan silk shawl, is embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work. The either side of the shawl width has the grand Shahi Paan motif, that we re created basis an archival image of a 18th Century Chikankari motif. The body is made of an intricate trellis jaal, where hand cut work stitches like hathkati have been used extensively, to bring out the beauty of this drape. The shawl features some rarest stitches done in 2 Taar Resham Chikankari - hathkati, shadow, murri, phanda, orma, pechni, and many more. Made on Order | Gulaab Ittar – Chikankari Tussar Silk Luxury Dupatta

55,000.00
This dupatta is Made on Order only. “There is a dialogue exchange in one of my favourite director, Satyajit Ray's, historical classic based on my city, Lucknow, Shatranj Ke Khiladi. The scene is like this - General Outram (portrayed very effectively by British actor Sir Richard Attenborough), the British appointed Resident at Lucknow, is conversing with a British doctor and legal practitioner, Ferra, on the ways to annex Awadh. During the conversation, General Outram, a true Brit, remarks on the perfume that the Nawab wears, which he calls "extraordinary" in sarcasm, but complains that his uniform reeks of it, even 3 months after the interview with the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Ferra remarks that the perfume is " attar", a Damask Rose Parfum made locally in Awadh. The slight on this fabulous perfume from Awadh was hurtful, yet expected from a character like Outram, who did not understand concepts of Indian aesthetics and was brought up to demean them. My mind however got stuck on Ferra's explanation of "Perfume of Damask Rose". My personal collection of perfumes is only of Ittar from Awadh - Khus, Gulaab, Sandal - being my absolute favourite. I always wanted to incorporate their name into a luxury piece created in Meiraas. So here is presenting a whiff of Damask Rose - The Gulaab Ittar Dupatta  ” - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas. A true museum art piece, the Gulab Ittar dupatta, is an exemplary piece of Luxury Chikankari. Created on supple Handwoven Tussar Silk, the dupatta is dyed in the shade of dark Kaner Gulaab, and embroidered upon with a lovely Coral Pink Orange resham thread. The highlight of this luxury dupatta is the fantastic Jaali work with Gold Qasab taar (jaali stitch made using zari filament vis a vis thread, which means it is more difficult, rare and time taking to create). The Gulab Ittar Dupatta is finished on either daaman with crochet lace dyed in the same colour. It is a fragrance of true art!! P.S: Email us at [email protected] if you wish to get a Kurta made to go with this dupatta. We will take the discussion forward. Email us to discuss fabric change of the dupatta.

Made on Order Antique Paan Chaand Dupatta

10,500.00
This product is Made on Order. Masterclass dupatta with 2 antique motifs in a design pattern - the Paan Boota & the Chaand Boota. This resham Chikankari Hand Embroidery Dupatta is made on handwoven Organza with Ganga Jamuna borders of Tested Zari Gold & Silver on either side. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Century plus antique Chikankari motif found and restored for use.

  5. Handwoven Pure Organza Silk with tested Zari borders of Gold & Silver, making it a Hand embroidered and Hand Woven wholesome piece of wearable art.
KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): This bright yellow dupatta has 2 antique Chikankari motifs - Paan and Chaand. Both motifs have very intricate detailing inside them. Gulkandi

23,500.00
This product is Ready To Ship. Please see Time in Dispatch for more details. A beautiful Rose Pink coloured Chikankari Dupatta with 2 motif fusion of Miniature Peacock and Jasmine flowers along with Mukaish embroidery all over The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Rare & antique miniature Peacock motif
  2. Resham Chikankari Hand Embroidery
  3. Mukaish Hand Embroidery
  4. 2 Motif fusion pattern all over the dupatta.
  5. Handloom Chanderi fabric
KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful. The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti. It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic black coloured gowns or jumpsuits as well. Important: You can email us at [email protected] if you wish to plan a Kurta or Ensemble with this dupatta.

  1. Meiraas Exclusive Bijli Boota motif, re created using an archival motif image
  2. Rare Hand Embroidery: Three colour embroidery on re created Bijli Boota with intricate cutwork like Bijli, Hathkati & Jaali in one motif! A rare feat indeed!!
  3. Resham Chikankari hand embroidery in 3 colours. The use of multicolours takes more time & skill than single colour work
  4. 2 Motif fusion pattern all over the dupatta. Even the miniature motif is made using 3 colours.
  5. Handloom Chanderi fabric
KHAYAL (moodboard):Elizabeth Bennett is the central protagonist of  Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. She is one of the five lovely Bennett sisters, & is now considered amongst the greatest heroines of English Classic Literature. Elizabeth is "second only to Jane in beauty & countenance", yet her most endearing aspect is her cynicism tempered with her sweet nature. With all the traits that Jane has & keeps each separate from the other, Elizabeth's character is a beautifully aligned composition of each one of them in a neat & witty package. This is why this buttery Chanderi Dupatta has three diverse colours of Pink, Yellow & Blue in one Motif, that symbolises Elizabeth the best, & as an evolved version of Jane. POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta is a grander version of Elizabeth Dupatta made by us sometime ago. The butter white Chanderi drape has a fusion of 3 unique miniature motifs, the Bijli boota in big & small size, and a miniature leaf petal boota. 3 soft pastel shades - Sky Blue, Lemon Yellow and Rose Pink, create each motif, even the most miniature one. The dupatta is closed on 4 sides with a shadow & ghasspatti bel in two colours. The Bijli motif has 3 unique hand cutworks in one motif - Bijli, Jaali & Hathkati!! It is simply astounding how much detailing one motif can hold. It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic white gowns or jumpsuits as well. 1. Rare Zari Taar Jaali stitch all over the dupatta
  2. Resham Chikankari hand embroidery
  3. Mukaish hand embroidery
  4. Handloom Chanderi fabric
KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. The shade chart of the colour Green you can get in Lucknow's own lingo, are endless. Dhaani, Elaichi, Khus, Panna, Aam Pana, Jaljeera, Pistai...phew the list is endless. As soon as one would refer to a Pistai colour for even textiles, the mind would wander to the sweetness of Pista Kulfi, that brings immense joy in harsh summer months, and that feeling propels to shop window for the colour that is evocative towards the said memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This moon like glowing Chanderi dupatta has Sea Green Resham Chikankari allover, with a fusion of two miniature motifs, the Paatra (leaf), and Champaa flowers. Champaai Dupatta

29,500.00
This product is Made On Order. Please see Time in Dispatch for more details. A moon like pristine White on White Chikankari & Mukaish dupatta on handwoven Chanderi. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Rare Zari Taar Jaali stitch all over the dupatta
  2. Resham Chikankari hand embroidery
  3. Mukaish hand embroidery
  4. Handloom Chanderi fabric
KHAYAL (moodboard): Champaai is a coloquial and beautiful colour name for White, and is commonly used in Lucknow's language. Champaai is used to describe anything that is beautiful, soft & pristine white, like Champa flowers. This word has been often used to describe lovely feet of ladies or their glowing complexion, by the poets of Lucknow; on the other hand, it has also been used to describe the all White on White Chikankari attire worn by a lady of society, who further decorates herself with pearls and diamonds. Her clothes are then called "Champaai Joda" (all white ensemble). While it could be said "Safed Joda", calling it Champaai makes it even more poetic, & shows appreciation for the styling done by the lady. This was the inspiration behind this soft jewel of a dupatta. POSHAAK (about the garment): This moon like glowing Chanderi dupatta has White Resham Chikankari allover, with a fusion of two miniature motifs, the Paatra (leaf), and Champaa flowers. A generous smattering of Mukaish daana makes the dupatta glow with a wondrous & celestial light. The dupatta is perfect to wear with an all white attire or any colour attire. This is one shade & look that will be a classic hand me down, and one where you cannot go wrong. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): The Antique Ambi motif is a Century plus old motif. The Jaali work on this motif is done using Qasab or Zari filament, which is the toughest level of Jaali stitch done on any fabric. To top this, this intricate hand cut stitch has been done on cloud like pure Organza Silk. Teasing the fabric apart to the precise extent, and creating perfect trellis pattern with Zari Filament (which is almost invisible to the eye), is the speciality of this heirloom Dupatta. It is a piece of wearable art that you would love to pass on generation to generation. Important: You can email us at [email protected] if you wish to plan a Kurta with this dupatta.

Swarna Ambi

25,000.00
Swarna Ambi, or the Golden Mango! This Gold Zari Silk Dupatta from Meiraas, is anointed with delicate Resham Chikankari & Mukaish on Tissue Georgette fabric. The dupatta is a festive statement in itself. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ): 1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery. 2. Antique motif art & layout created using hand carved motifs following all processes. 3. Mukaish hand embroidery KHAYAL (mood-board): Swarna is a hue we love! We introduced the fabric of Zari Silk (or Tissue) with Resham Chikankari, back in 2020, with our Dhanlakshmi collection. Since then, this is one of our most revered & loved creations. Our moodboard was inspired by the ancient Indian sculptures that showcased very intricate & deep work on rich fabrics. We wanted to explore this unexplored dimension with Chikankari work, and it turned out ethereal!! POSHAAK (about the dress): The Swarna Ambi dupatta has beautiful Gold Ambi motifs on two sides of the daaman diagonally. The workmanship in the Ambi motif is exquisite with many rare stitches, including qasab taar ki jaali. The rest of the dupatta is embroidered with a very intricate miniature diskette shaped floral motif, which is further highlighted by Mukaish embroidery. The delicate, yet rich dupatta is made on Tissue Georgette fabric allowing a light weight & flattering drape. Please see the full dupatta images by scrolling till the end. This dupatta is very good to take stand alone as a statement wrap on neutral shade kurtas, or you can pair it with Swarna Kurta in Swarna Ensemble  The images of this pairing are shown in last two pictures. This post has Dupatta only that can be shopped.

Paan ki Aam Gilauri – Amethyst

11,500.00
Antique Masterclass Jaali Chikankari Hand Embroidery Dupatta in Paan Motif on handwoven Organza with Ganga Jamuna borders of Tested Zari Gold & Silver on either side. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Jaali stitch in one the largest surface areas - the outer circumference of Paan motif
  2. The highly skilled Murri (Biryani Chawal) stitch outside the Jaali border.
  3. One of a kind conceptual art work - Paan (betel leaf) and Aam (paisley) motifs together - both signature icons of Lucknow & Chikankari
  4. Shahi Paan motif commissioned and re created by Meiraas using archived ancient work.
  5. Masterclass Jaali stitch work using Zari filament, which is extremely difficult to do.
  6. Sustaining highest quality of Jaali stitch as centrepiece, which is almost vanishing from the craft or getting replaced with sequins and cutdana.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This is one of a kind Conceptual work. Paan Gilauri & Aam ki Kairi are two iconographic motifs of Lucknow & its heritage craft, Chikankari. We used our Shahi Paan motif and filled it inside with small Kairi paisley motifs. The outside border of the Paan has stunning Jaali work one such a large surface, a one of a kind piece of art visible no where. The border is further decorated with extremely tough Murri stitch. This is a masterpiece amethyst colour Dupatta. The Paan motif is one 2 corners of the dupatta diagonally. Rest of the dupatta has Keel Kangan booti allover. 1. Masterclass Jaali stitch work using Zari filament, which is extremely difficult to do.
  2. Sustaining highest quality of Jaali stitch as centrepiece, which is almost vanishing from the craft or getting replaced with sequins and cutdana.
  3. Very fine resham taar Chikankari done with immense detailing inside the motif
  4. Handwoven Pure Organza Silk with tested Zari borders of Gold & Silver, making it a Hand embroidered and Hand Woven wholesome piece of wearable art.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Have you ever seen Lucknow's famous 500 plus year old dessert recipe, Malai Gilauri? For those who have not, it is Malai or Khurchan cooked over hours, that is removed from the sides of a paan, when cooled down. The layer of cooked Malai is then decorated with many beautiful condiments - pistachios, almonds, sugar, kewra water - before rolling into a Gilauri. The process just before making the Gilauri is a beautiful sight. This motif with the finest stitches of most beautiful & complex embroidery, and Jaali stitch, reminds us of the Gilauri, just before getting folded and bound into a mouthful of sweet bliss. POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta has 3 Malai Gilauri motifs along the centre length, making it look full, yet not overwhelming, so that the extremely beautiful Gilauri motif looks clutter free and neat, resting upon delicate Organza. A subtle stunner!! Small floral bootis accompany this one of a kind dupatta. Jane Bennett

8,500.00
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  • Rare Hand Embroidery: Three colour embroidery on re created Bijli Boota with intricate cutwork like Bijli, Hathkati & Jaali in one motif! A rare feat indeed.
  • Re created vintage motif: Bijli boota has been re created from scratch by Meiraas. Please see our founder's IGTV, The Building Blocks, to know more.
  • Handloom Pure Organza Silk
KHAYAL (moodboard): Jane Bennett is a character in Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. She is one of the five lovely Bennett sisters, & is another underrated character. She has all the characteristics of a classic heroine - beautiful, calm, composed, gentle, kind with a need to see good in everyone - yet she is more of a non central protagonist in the book. Many readers find Jane very placid & simple, yet I see many character traits in Jane that are tied up better in her dearest & closest sister, Elizabeth. Jane just knows how to keep one trait apart from another. This is why this buttery Organza Dupatta with same motif in three diverse colours of Pink, Yellow & Blue symbolises Jane the best. POSHAAK (about the garment): Natural White Handloom Organza Dupatta with pure tested Gold & Silver Zari borders, embroidered with delicate Bijli Boota re created by Meiraas from an archived block. This block has 3 master cutwork stitches in one motif - Hool, Jaali & Hathkati along with other with stitches like Phanda, Orma & Shadow. It is a rare masterpiece! Imp: Colours may vary a bit, although they are all shot professionally in studio set up & closest colour has been photographed; Any variation can be due to digital medium of photography that is outside our control.

POSHAAK (about the garment):

Bijli Boota is a name given to this motif by our team of karigars, as its core has Bijli stitch. This motif has been recreated using an archived motif from a well documented book on Heritage Chikankari.

The dupatta is Lilac Zari Silk  with tones of Silver. It is a unique weave commissioned by Meiraas for Chikankari. It is pure Zari in Taana, Pure Zari in Baana & little bit of Pure Silk to bind this Work of Art together. Meiraas has been a leader in bringing Chikankari art on Metallic Zari Silk. The richness of the weave & Embroidery will be more enhanced when the dupatta is in the hands of the patron, it is like wearing a sheet of Molten Metal.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Elizabeth Bennett is the central protagonist of  Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. Elizabeth is "second only to Jane in beauty & countenance", yet her most endearing aspect is her cynicism tempered with her sweet nature. Catherine

7,900.00
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  • Rare Hand Embroidery: Nuanced Tepchi Hand Embroidery in full jaal using Resham Thread
  • Handloom Kota Doria: A rarity in itself now. We came upon this batch with great difficulty as most of the Kota available now in market is not handwoven.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Catherine Earnshaw is one of the central characters of Wuthering Heights (1847), an iconic & solo work of Emily Bronte. Wuthering Heights is tumultuous, raw, untamed, complex. While many readers feel that is a symbolism of its male protagonist, Heathcliff, I have always felt that the wild English moors of this novel symbolise Catherine, its female protagonist. I felt Heathcliff reacted to everything that was Catherine. Catherine is extremely complex; raised to be a lady & aspiring to be one too, she however loves untamed wildness. The intricate jaal work of this dupatta and its creamy sophistication alongside, makes us name it Catherine. POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Cream Handloom Kota Dupatta embroidered with delicate full jaal tone on tone Tepchi Chikankari in floral & paisley pattern. Last image is taken against a backlight. The crochet lace detailing in cream colour is a signature style of Meiraas & adds to the character of the dupatta.

Gold Zari Silk Dupatta is a unique weave commissioned by Meiraas. Pure Zari in Taana, Pure Zari in Baana & little bit of Pure Silk to bind this Work of Art together. The Rich Weave has been then adorned with Resham Chikankari in Heritage motifs. This is a first time such a dupatta has ever been made in Chikankari, & likely this status will remain for a long time. The richness of the weave & Embroidery will be more enhanced when the dupatta is in the hands of the patron, it is like wearing a sheet of Molten Gold. The dupatta has miniature Paisley motif that dates back almost 2 centuries.

NO RETURN/EXCHANGE REQUEST WILL BE ENTERTAINED FOR MADE ON ORDER PRODUCT.

  • Original Meiraas Motif created in 2017.
  • Rare Hand Embroidery: Nuanced Tepchi Hand Embroidery using Resham Thread
  • Handloom Kota Doria: A rarity in itself now. We came upon this batch with great difficulty as most of the Kota available now in market is not handwoven.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Emma (1815) is an English Classic penned by the legendary Jane Austen. Emma Woodhouse's World is carefree, full of peachy youth, an eagerness to help and fix everyone's problems and as a result create more problems. Austen's writing exposes a very different English society, one that is more simple & relatable to the slice of every day life. Emma's adorable character traits made us name this Peach dupatta after her. POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Peach Handloom Kota Dupatta embroidered with delicate tone on tone Tepchi Chikankari in floral pattern of unique Meiraas Motif created in 2017. Last image is taken against a backlight. The crochet lace detailing in peach colour is a signature style of Meiraas & adds to the character of the dupatta. Imp: Colours may vary a bit, although they are all shot professionally in studio set up & closest colour has been photographed; Any variation can be due to digital medium of photography that is outside our control. Please Note: Only the dupatta is for sale in this post
