KHAYAL (mood-board): This beautiful flower, with opening and carelessly cascading petals, appears on almost every monument in the erstwhile Awadh region, right uptil Ayodhya. Is it Lotus (less likely), is it Semal flower (but why?), it certainly isn't rose. There has been no culture of Tulips in the country, so which flower is it, that appears on every monument of note, throughout Awadh. This motif is accompanied with Matsya motif, and can be seen in all old temples & buildings of Ayodhya, the most ancient seat of Awadh. It has to have a deep cultural significance. So for now, let us name it - The Awadh Blossom. If one goes to the National Museum, Delhi, one can also see a gorgeous Jade knife hoslter with the same Awadh Blossom carved on it. This flower was certainly significant. POSHAAK (about the dress): This 2 Taar Resham Chikankari Kurta Dupatta ensemble is a rarity in minimalist moodboard. Usually when it comes to 2 Taar Resham Chikankari, it is so rare, that one gets full ensemble embroidered in it. Minimalist moodboard allows patrons to enjoy this rare & precious embroidery, with a historic motif, in a more functional format. The front of the Kurta and sleeves has an open tulip floral motif with Qasab Taar ki Jaali, the back has the re-created statement motif of The Awadh Blossom, in all its grandeur, with very intricate workmanship. The dupatta that accompanies the Kurta has the open tulip motif too, with Qasab taar Jaali detailing. We chose the three colour pastel embroidery on ivory base, for the 2 Taar work to stand out in a minimalist moodboard. The Pure Georgette Silk base makes this a perfect wear for many occasions, both formal & semi formal. Some pearls or solitaires are all one needs to dress up such an ensemble. Epiphany - that is what this ensemble is!!

Our Creative Head, Vidhi, chanced upon a Peacock sitting on a tree with Full moon throwing Cosmic light on him, right outside her home. It was a heart stopping celestial sight that one has to be truly blessed to witness. This moodboard was then translated into the design of this ensemble with the motifs of Peacock and a Crescent Moon in our Chikankari unit.

How nature inspires artwork at every step!! POSHAAK (about the dress): This beautiful oleander pink kurta has a Chaand Bel on the neckline, with intricate Qasab taar ki Jaali work. The front & sleeves are scattered with keel kangan motifs, and the back has the grand statement Peacock perched on the Crescent motif. The Gulkandi dupatta, that is one shade darker than the kurta, is scattered with miniature peacock motif, to complete the look of this beautiful ensemble. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours & palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. After successfully venturing into Gold, Silver hues, and Pearl, Firoza, Precious stones like Tourmaline, Agate hues, we wanted to include Gemstone shades. Our lands are blessed with a variety of natural minerals and gemstones that have immense energy stored within them. Formed under the envelope of Bhoodevi's (Earth) womb, they radiate and reflect back her energy and lend them to the wearer. Our Chanderi sarees, adorned with heirloom quality Chikankari, are named after these soft and deeply spiritual stones. Pukhraaj or Yellow Sapphire is a brilliant yellow coloured clear looking mineral stone. This beautiful Yellow luminous Chikankari Chanderi saree with antique quality embroidery, is the perfect connect to that emotion with us, that resonates with carrying forward a revered Textile Tradition. POSHAAK (about the saree): This bright Yellow luminous expanse of handwoven Chanderi saree is embroidered with some of the most antique motifs; some old, some recreated based on archived old motifs. The saree palla has very antique bel boota on palla & border, made with fine and prized Murri stitch, a rare work of art. It further has a Grand Paisley Guldaan Boota with finest of Murri & Ghaspatti embroidery. Amongst the revered and rare Chikankari stitches, Murri takes precedence as it is very painstaking to create. It has to mimic a Biryani Chawal like fineness and beauty, which is extremely difficult to achieve, especially so in Resham thread. The small floral booti in the palla & body of this saree is 200 plus years old. It is a Murri ki Kairi, a miniature fine art motif, that is made almost completely with fine Murri, making this saree an outstanding piece of Murri artwork The saree is lit up with diyas of Mukaish embroidery placed beautifully amidst the fine thread art. POSHAAK (about the saree): This soft Blush Pink luminous expanse of handwoven Chanderi saree is embroidered with some of the most antique motifs; some old, some recreated based on archived old motifs. The saree palla has very antique bel boota on palla & border, which is centuries old and is a rarely seen design. This fine quality motif has extremely complex work in such a small surface. It further has our Shahi Paan boota, which has been commissioned by Meiraas, basis an archived rare motif. The Shahi Paan boota is on either ends of the Palla, and has our conceptual work where we have filled tiny mango or Paisley motifs inside the Paan motif. The Paisley & Paan are two iconic imageries of Lucknow & Chikankari, and we have brought both together in this conceptual work, making it one of a kind artwork to be revered forever. The small floral booti in the palla & body of this saree is 200 plus years old. It has some extremely complex stitches in this small a surface area - Zari taar ki Jaali, Hool & Murri. One of a kind masterpiece!! There is an additional keel boota that runs in the body of the saree, along with complex floral booti. The saree is lit up with diyas of Mukaish embroidery placed beautifully amidst the fine thread art. Saree is finished with a Satin Silk selvedge in Rani Pink and we will also provide a 1 metre approx blouse piece in same fabric and same colour. This kind of Chikankari is the opposite of classic & ethereal White on White or pastel Tone on Tone. This is rich, decadent, sultry, elegant, mysterious & yet, stately. The motifs are also picked keeping the noir theme in mind. POSHAAK (about the dress): This rich Oxblood shade kurta has a Chaand Bel neckline, with Qasab Taar jaali work. It also features small motifs of Keel & Ghaspatti flowers all over front & on sleeves. KHAYAAL (moodboard): Kamal Sarovar Grande is a customised saree of the original Kamal Sarovar saree we had made in 2020 that can be seen here The creation of this saree was magnificent. Kamal Sarovar was born out of a dream to create a river full of blooming lotuses. Only a complete jaal saree could do proper justice to the thought. We wanted the base of the saree to have a soft pearly glow to represent a water body glistening in the morning sunlight, when the Lotuses have started blooming for the day. Our handwoven Chanderi fabric was the best option. A contrast pastel colour is used to create blossoming Lotuses all through the saree. This saree is a work of wearable art & a visually aesthetic masterpiece!! POSHAAK (about the saree): The expanse of Grey Chanderi Handloom saree plays with delicate Pink Kamal Sarovar embroidery in Resham Chikankari, all over the body. Each flower & leaf in the embroidery comes alive with glistening Mukaish stars that add mystical allure to this beautiful combination. Showcased in some premium shows like Red Earth Saree Festival, Dastkar, Sanatkada, Ficci Flo & SAARC event, this saree was the game changer in bringing back stories & concepts in Chikankari Craft as an ode to Lucknow. After the debut of this concept, designers in Chikankari started exploring motifs beyond floral art. The saree was first videographed on Isha Priya Singh (@desidrapes on IG) in June, 2018 at the gorgeous Lebua, Lucknow. Isha ji participated in the video purely as a goodwill gesture. Khayal (moodboard): NAWABI SHAUK - The Slow Hobbies of Nawab Royalty Kite Flying & Rooster Matches were some of the prominent hobbies of Nawabi Royalty. Kite Flying is also a beautiful ritual that celebrated the different faiths presiding in one city of Lucknow, thus a harmonious & binding activity. Celebrated Indian Filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, in his 1977 classic "Shatranj Ke Khiladi", romanced the By-lanes of Lucknow & these slow civil rituals. POSHAAK (about the dress): This 3 D art saree is feather light & has a powder blue base with gold pure tested zari detailing on either side of the width of the saree. The embroidery is done using 2-3 colours; in this the fighting roosters were the toughest to create. The artwork had to look realistic, yet something that could be created successfully in Chikankari. The colours used to make the Roosters are the actual colours of "desi murga" or indigenous roosters of India. Multiple brainstorming sessions with artisans made this art of Rooster Fighting & Kite Flying come alive on the saree. The moment of reckoning was when the son of the lead artisan, who was indifferent to the craft, beamed on seeing the saree. The embroidery is till the end of the saree. KHYAAL (Moodboard):

The inspiration behind this saree is the Ambi or Amiya motif, which symbolises Mango Fruit in Lucknow summers. One of the most celebrated motifs of Chikankari is paisley or ambi motif, due to it being a signature fruit from the city. This is the reason why most Chikankari garments carry this motif as a signature look. Another signature look of Chikankari is its Jaali stitch, which we wanted to incorporate, along with the Biryani Chawal or Murri stitch inside the Ambi shape, making this one of a kind rare, conceptual saree from Lucknow. The motif and the stitches that have been used to bring it alive, gives a feeling of the art and cultural heritage coming together to celebrate Lucknow, via needle handicraft.

POSHAAK (About the garment):

This stunning Ombre dyed yellow Chikankari saree has a unique layout. The palla has a square konia created on either side with a collage of sorts made with an antique Ambi boota, along with lotus and leafy shoot motif, all this symbolising the flora and fruit & grass bounty of Awadh Summers. The palla has a beautiful motif of Jasmine flowers in between the Square Art konia, symbolising the bounty of Mother Nature, even amidst the harsh Grishma heat. The rest of the palla has another Antqiue Ambi motif, with very fine Qasab Taar Jaali work, along with fine murri stitch. So this saree has two unique & antqiue Ambi motifs. The name Amuva alludes to the song "Amuva ki daali pe bole koyaliya" from the film Dahej (1952), that is set in Lucknow city. This is the colloquial name for Mangoes in Lucknow. Stars of Mukaish decorate this beautiful Ombre dyed Yellow saree on Handwoven Chanderi Silk, making it a unique piece of wearable art.

KHAYAL (mood-board): Tulips have captured the mind space of Art connoisseurs alike the World Over. Maybe its alluring form is the reason, or their vibrant colours, but the elegant and beautiful Tulips find themselves as the centrepiece in many works of Art, including Textiles, where they have a dominating presence in some cultures. In Chikankari, we wanted these celebrated blossoms to be represented too, as the craft seems to be made for them. Our visit to a Tulip Show in New Delhi, in February of 2024, solidified this dream. POSHAAK (about the dress): The intertwined pair of Tulips find their romantic adaptation in Chikankari, through Tulip Royale ensemble. The front panel & sleeves has the Tulip Royale motif patterned heavily all through, creating a beautiful tone on tone effect in Ocean Blue shade of the Handloom Chanderi kurta. The back of the Kurta has the Tulip Royale encased inside a miniature oval frame motif, to show the allure of the blossom & its representation in Art. This motif has the rarest 3D embroidery, & the first of its kind in Chikankari. The complete oval miniature motif has been embroidered with Qasab Taar jaali, possibly the largest surface to have Jaali stitch in. The tulip encased inside this frame has other Chikankari stitches like Orma, Bijli & Shadow. The Jaali embroidery changes the shade of the Blue of the miniature oval, while the blue of the portions where Shadow embroidery is done have another hue; then again, the flower area with Orma stitch is darker and different blue from the Jaali & Stalk part of the embroidery.
