POSHAAK (about the product): This beautiful Kurta spells Lucknow with every thread of its being! The neckline and sleeves have a beautiful Murri & Bijli motif detailing with very fine filament work. The shoulder has the classic shadow java (detailing) of the classical Chikankari era of kurtas. The back has a symposium of Lotus flowers strung together in a statement motif, finished with fine shadow embroidery. When you visit the Hazratganj market of Lucknow, you will see most buildings in the colour of a pretty soft yellow and pink, something very unique and very Lucknow. We wanted to use that kind of soft pastel pink for our Kurta. This kurta spells Classic Lucknow like none can. You can shop plain pants to match with the same from Cotton Plain White Pants . This sun motif in itself was fashioned using 2-3 different motifs, to create a unique design language. POSHAAK (about the product): A kurta that has taken our breath away with the simplicity of its design and yet the skilled artisanal work with rare stitches and lesser filament of Chikankari embroidery threads. The slightly rounded hemline Kurta in Handloom Cotton has a unique design layout of diagonal stripes of a very traditional wall art mandana block. This strip is then embroidered with Orma and Murri, along with Phanda in very fine thread work, extensively. This work has also been done on the sleeves. The back features a geometric floral pattern that pairs well with the unique strip motif on the front, making it a truly rich kurta with fine embroidery. Cheeku Shake is a refereshing summer drink that was made in the homes of Lucknow in the Dopehri of Summers, as a seasonal, refreshing and healthy treat for the entire family! KHAYAL (mood board): "When i had designed the first Tunic & Palazzo set (it was yellow and my personal set), i was very new into this work & having grown up seeing Chikankari wanted something radically different in motifs and layout, yet something that does not defeat or overpower the elegant & laidback mood that the craft is identified with & loved for. I continue to be a rebel in my thoughts about designing Chikankari pieces & by now that has become a signature style of Meiraas. This ensemble was designed to be something you can slip on easily in casual or formal meetings in India, & as comfortably carry them in SoHo, New York or a French Countryside in a vineyard possibly. The idea was my rebellious little mind that wanted tradition to carry on, yet break from the pattern and do it" - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Design, Meiraas POSHAAK (about the product): Soft cotton Chikankari Tunic (Kurta) in Meiraas Exclusive Patta Boota Motif. The interesting part of this Motif Embroidery is the clever confluence of two styles of embroidery in one motif, both native to Lucknow, Aari & Chikankari. The Flower is filled with Aari stitch, whereas the rest of the motif is done in Chikankari. Both seamlessly come together in a perfect symbiosis. About the Tunic (Kurta): The length is 41 inches for each Kurta. This length can be shortened 2 inches only on request. The motifs are 3 on hemline, one each on either shoulder. Please mention your size as per size chart on checkout. About the Palazzo (Pants): The waistband is belt style (flat) in front & elastic at the back. The motif comes 1 each on each leg. Top quality pure cotton fabric KHAYAL (moodboard): Orange Biskoot or Biscuit reminds me of a bakery in Lucknow (confused whether Good Bakery or Burma Bakery), that made these subtle orange flavoured nankhatai sort of biscuits. The colour had a hint of orange, and they tasted very subtly of the orange flavour, like just about. They were my favourites back then. Gradually either they stopped being made, or newer bakeries came up with truffles and what not, we did grow apart; yet the memory lingers - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas POSHAAK (about the dress): Beautiful peach coloured Kurta Fabric in Pure Jacquard Cotton anointed with embroidery just a shade darker. The Chikankari motif used here is a heritage one, and rarely seen. The back has a single motif of Phool with the precious Sunehre Kasab ki taar jaali. The sleeves also have the back motif one each on either sleeve. Rest of the Kurta is plain, so that both self pattern fabric & Chikankari on it can neatly shine through. The Chikankari is Resham and will be 3 taar. This kurta fabric is a good way to wear heritage motifs in classical Awadhi style, and most importantly for everyday wear, not just occasion wear. However, if one has to, then this grass, that throws the most pleasant fragrance, when sprinkled with water, is the feeling one gets when donning a Chikankari Kurta in scorching summers, sitting indoors, and reading a book with soft music and eating Kulfi. Khus is that romance that is indigenous to Lucknow, and to Awadh. An even better presentation is when Mango Shakes are garnished with Rose Petals, and served in earthern "kulhad" glasses. This was something done in some popular juice corners in Lucknow, transforming the much loved drink to an instant royal feel. Now very few such shops remain, but the memories are still fresh, & private summer soirees in Lucknow, still serve this speciality. KHAYAL (mood-board): Mango Yellow - When one thinks of Lucknow & summers, it is impossible not to think of the sweet nectarine mangoes of the region. As soon as fresh mangoes of the season come in, one whiff of the freshly plucked ones, sends anyone into an ecstasy of sensory pleasure of roaming in a beautiful mango orchard. This is what we wanted to capture through this design. POSHAAK (about the dress): The central embroidery feature of this kurta is the Flower Motif on the Macchli Gate of Rumi Darwaza. When one sees this emblem of Awadh, one can see the two fishes on either side of a majestic flora. That flora is the central motif on the hemline & back motif of this kurta. A miniature version of the same, has been added to the body of the kurta. The fish motifs are done in Daraz to give this kurta the complete feel of the concept.
