It has a beautiful border that is full of Jaali, the extremely dexterous and prized Hand Cut Work in Chikankari, which is akin to crafting a lace by hand, and Murri, creating a beautiful masterpiece border. KHAYAAL (Mood-board): The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours and palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. Padma Toran, or the Garland of Lotus, is a devotion to Sri Lakshmi. This stunning piece of Wearable Art, that carries with it the finest fragrance of Awadhi couture, has a detailed border of Lotus and its buds running all through the length and width of the saree border. Dancing Peacocks are perched on the palla of the saree, all in obeisance to the Maha Lakshmi. Asymmetrical galaxy and star patterns fill the saree, and its regal and subtly rich colour is an ode to the deity herself. Padma Toran is for the Lakshmi within you. It is a piece de resistance, and one that creates new Heirlooms and Textile Traditions. POSHAAK (About the garment): Padma Toran is a saree meant to cherish and pass on for its sheer body of artistry, both with its unique concept and painstaking melange of three Heritage hand embroideries of Awadh - Resham Chikankari, Qasab Taar Aari and Zardozi, that have come together on this poetry of a saree. The Padma Toran or Lotus border is hand embroidered first with Resham Chikankari in soft golden cream hue on Old Rose base. Each Lotus is hand cut with Qasab Taar Jaali in Gold. Along with this, each Lotus bud is highlighted with Qasab Taar ghaspatti stitch in Silver, making the saree a Sona Rupa (Silver Gold), rarest of rare combination in Chikankari embroidery. The grand Dancing Peacocks on the Palla are also highlighted with Murri stitch in Silver Qasab Taar. After Chikankari artisans, the saree travelled to the Zardozi artisans, where an Ustaad first hand embroidered each motif painstakingly with Gold Qasab Taar in Aari hand embroidery, with minutest attention to detail. After this level of embroidery was completed, the saree was embellished with a lot of precision in Zardozi hand embroidery, with Cutdaana, Pearls, micro sequins, rainbow beads of very premium quality. Each of these embellishments is micro in vision, but glows with a brilliant sheen under lights. The Old Rose hue of the Tissue Georgette saree adds to the regal drama of this scalloped beauty. Please note that Eri or Ahimsa Silk is one of the most premium fabrics of the World. Produced in weaving clusters of Assam, this silk is handspun & handwoven. It is also known as Wild Silk, as it is not obtained from farmed silkworms. This Silk is called Ahimsa or Peace Silk, because the silk extraction process here, allows the silkworms to leave their cocoon. Only after that, silk is extracted, making this a Cruelty Free Yarn. Eri Silk is thermostatic in nature, making it all weather compatible. It improves with age & use, making it one of the most sustainable & sought after fabrics. KHAYAL (mood-board): Jambumani is the Sanskrit name for Rich Purple Amethyst. Since time immemorial, considered a plush hue for the royals, Jambumani exudes a calming, yet rich aura. An essence also unique to the Chikankari Craft. POSHAAK (about the dress): Jambumani Resham Chikankari Eri Silk Kurta has a beautiful floral motif with many rare stitches of Chikankari, displayed in a very delicate and old world pattern. The kurta embroidery has stitches like Qasab Taar Jaali (very difficult to do on Eri Silk due to fabric density), Ghaspatti, Shadow, Orma, Murri, Phanda, etc. amongst other stitches of the Craft. The elegant motif is falling from one shoulder in a beautiful artistic pattern. Miniature motifs of Cherry and Ambi add the delicate touch all over the kurta, alongside the primary motif. The sleeves have the same miniature motif, along with ghaspatti bel detailing. The back has the primary floral motif as the statement back. The kurta is dyed to a plush, rich purple shade. This work of Satkhaani jaali is now done by handful of artisans only for very select collectors of heritage crafts. - Pure Organza Silk KHAYAAL (moodboard): "Summers in 1980s Lucknow meant, the whole family sleeping on the terrace at night. While one reason could be that power cuts were frequent then, another reason was its charm of sleeping under the open sky. Nani's house was a treat for me in this respect, whenever we stayed there. We would sleep under the stars, all cousins and elders around on their own charpais. Papa would take this as a moment to show me stars, planets, moon, the Milky Way, etc etc. It was fascinating & I deeply miss those innocent times. Nakshatra is a product of that reverie. Designing Nakshatra was always a dream, ever since I started working with Mukaish craft. The stars of Mukaish say so much to me than just metallic embellishments. They remind me of shooting stars, sun shining on dewdrops, planets, forces that are beyond our comprehension, and we can only see them as glittering dots, because we are limited in our scope to understand energies. This was the thought with which I explored Nakshatra. The Golden Trellis was the perfect embroidery to try this design intervention. I conceptualised a Celestial Trinity of the Sun, the Moon and the Planet to denote the Nakshatra and set it on a bed of stars in the sky in the form of this beautiful Organza Saree. I wish the patron wears it in an enchanting dinner place, under open clear sky, with millions of stars, a glass of wine and good company at hand and have a soulful time to remember & cherish forever." - Vidhi, Head of Creative, Meiraas POSHAAK (about the saree): This dark black sky of a soft cloudy Organza Saree has the Constellation in the form of - the Sun, the Moon & the Planet in Golden Trellish Kaamdaani embroidery. The Awadh Blossom motif re-created from an archived motif shown in Paola Manfredi's "Chikankari: A Lucknowi Tradition" 2. Motifs hand carved following all processes. 4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book. KHAYAL (mood-board): This beautiful flower, with opening and carelessly cascading petals, appears on almost every monument in the erstwhile Awadh region, right uptil Ayodhya. Is it Lotus (less likely), is it Semal flower (but why?), it certainly isn't rose. There has been no culture of Tulips in the country, so which flower is it, that appears on every monument of note, throughout Awadh. This motif is accompanied with Matsya motif, and can be seen in all old temples & buildings of Ayodhya, the most ancient seat of Awadh. It has to have a deep cultural significance. So for now, let us name it - The Awadh Blossom. If one goes to the National Museum, Delhi, one can also see a gorgeous Jade knife hoslter with the same Awadh Blossom carved on it. This flower was certainly significant. POSHAAK (about the dress): This 2 Taar Resham Chikankari Kurta Dupatta ensemble is a rarity in minimalist moodboard. Usually when it comes to 2 Taar Resham Chikankari, it is so rare, that one gets full ensemble embroidered in it. Minimalist moodboard allows patrons to enjoy this rare & precious embroidery, with a historic motif, in a more functional format. The front of the Kurta and sleeves has an open tulip floral motif with Qasab Taar ki Jaali, the back has the re-created statement motif of The Awadh Blossom, in all its grandeur, with very intricate workmanship. The dupatta that accompanies the Kurta has the open tulip motif too, with Qasab taar Jaali detailing. We chose the three colour pastel embroidery on ivory base, for the 2 Taar work to stand out in a minimalist moodboard. The Pure Georgette Silk base makes this a perfect wear for many occasions, both formal & semi formal. Some pearls or solitaires are all one needs to dress up such an ensemble. If you wish to add plain Glazed Cotton pants in same shade to match, you can select the same from Glazed Cotton Plain Pants and in Customer Note mention: Please make Pants to match the selected set.
