KHAYAL (moodboard): Orange Biskoot or Biscuit reminds me of a bakery in Lucknow (confused whether Good Bakery or Burma Bakery), that made these subtle orange flavoured nankhatai sort of biscuits. The colour had a hint of orange, and they tasted very subtly of the orange flavour, like just about. They were my favourites back then.Gradually either they stopped being made, or newer bakeries came up with truffles and what not, we did grow apart; yet the memory lingers - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas
POSHAAK (about the dress): Beautiful peach coloured Kurta Fabric in Pure Jacquard Cotton anointed with embroidery just a shade darker. The Chikankari motif used here is a heritage one, and rarely seen. The back has a single motif of Phool with the precious Sunehre Kasab ki taar jaali. The sleeves also have the back motif one each on either sleeve. Rest of the Kurta is plain, so that both self pattern fabric & Chikankari on it can neatly shine through.
The Chikankari is Resham and will be 3 taar.
This kurta fabric is a good way to wear heritage motifs in classical Awadhi style, and most importantly for everyday wear, not just occasion wear.

POSHAAK (about the product):
Gulaab - Pink has always been an uplifting hue for Indians. The legendary fashion editor of Vogue, Diana Vreeland once commented "Pink is the Navy Blue of India", denoting the significance the hue has for Indians.
While Pink is often pigeonholed as feminine in Western parlance, in India the feminine energy has deep significance since ancient period.
We equate feminine energy with grace, softness, nurturing ability that can appreciate art and aesthetics. Pink is the colour of Lotus and Rose for us. The feminine energy that gave these qualities was held in high esteem by men of Ancient India too, and hence was embraced by them.
This is why Pink is important hue for India.
This Pastel Rose Pink Chikankari Kurta made on soft cotton has a Round and V design, showing beautiful décolletage, and comfortable in the sweltering months.
The neck has beautiful embroidery, while the rest of the body has lovely scattered motifs.
The back of the Kurta has small bootis scattered at a distance.

Bel Sharbat is a refreshing home made summer cooler in almost all Lucknow homes. Bel is an extremely nutritious fruit, and in the month of May this extremely juicy fruits starts falling from the trees, unable to hold its weight due to the nectar bursting inside.
Smaller than a melon, and bigger than a lemon, the pastel peach insides of the fruit are soaked in water and the juice is extracted as a slow process. Pre Cola and packaged drinks onslaught, these home made healthy beverages formed the summer staple of every Lucknow Dopehri.

FISH motif is one of the most celebrated icons of Awadh's heritage & history. The Fish Emblem was sacred to the Nawab royalty of Lucknow & Awadh, and its inspiration looms large on the many architectural landmarks across Awadh, that are now seeing the ravages of time. We have already created an Original Chikankari Motif of the Fish Emblem, we now wanted to create a revival of the iconic symbol in another masterpiece art of Awadh - Daraz applique.
The Awadhi Crafts are versatile with hand arts beyond Chikankari; Many crafts like Daraz, Mukaish, Aari, Zardozi have a unique standing of their own, yet are now relegated as an add on to Chikan in their most basic & non creative form. Daraz applique is one of them.
Poshaak: (about the dress)
Meiraas wanted to bring high quality design back to Daraz artisans, therefore we got Awadhi Fish motifs created that they are still aware of but have been fairly out of practice to do it. The idea to create this motif came from some images of ancient Chikankari clothes kept in various museums & shown in well researched coffee table books. The rest of the Kurta has brilliant black bootis. The back has unique Meiraas Motif of Awadhi Fish symbol.
The Kurta has pocket detailing that makes it an elegant and practical wear.

POSHAAK (about the product):
Khus - the hue associated with ancient Awadh!! Khus!!
The essence of Khus is difficult to describe, unless experienced firsthand. However, if one has to, then this grass, that throws the most pleasant fragrance, when sprinkled with water, is the feeling one gets when donning a Chikankari Kurta in scorching summers, sitting indoors, and reading a book with soft music and eating Kulfi.
Khus is that romance that is indigenous to Lucknow, and to Awadh. This Kurta has been lovingly given this beautiful Pastel yet deeper green hue to denote our expression for Khus - fresh and romantic!!
The Khus Green Chikankari Kurta made on soft cotton has a Round and V design, showing beautiful décolletage, and comfortable in the sweltering months.
The neck has beautiful embroidery, while the rest of the body has lovely scattered motifs.
The back of the Kurta has small bootis scattered at a distance.

The shade of the Kurta: ECRU
What is ECRU? Ecru is an un-White colour; meaning a white that has subtle hint of another colour. At Meiraas, we are exploring an un-White colour palette, and Ecru is a colour we have successfully replicated after many trials on fabric samples.
Ecru is generally of two kind - White with hint of olive green, White with hint of olive brown. While both Ecru are ethereal, we lean more towards the green tint; so summer fresh and elegant.

Traditional Oreb Cut of Awadh
Handmade in India
SUSTAINABLE MEIRAAS CHIKANKARIKHAYAL (moodboard): Ruskin Bond's novella "A Flight of Pigeons" is set in Shahjahanbad, Uttar Pradesh, during India's first recorded War of Independence against British Raj in 1857. The story, though a love story in the intent, is a lot more than that. It is a beautiful story of camaraderie in such bleak times between English women who are left as survivors of an aftermath, & extreme kindness & compassion they end up sharing with Indians where they take shelter. The friendship between "Kothiwali" an aging matriarch & Mariam, the English lady is lovely. The Cotton Frock, Aamramanjari, is an ode to this friendship & hence is made in a style that passes for both Indian & English.
Aamra Manjari or Mango Blossoms is the name given to the beautiful embroidery, as that belt of Uttar Pradesh is dominated by rows and rows of Mango plantations. Just like the tender & joyous blossoms, the friendship of women in this story is unassuming, under rated, yet most beautiful.
POSHAAK (about the outfit): Aamra Manjari Cotton Frock is made on Soft Pure Cotton. This frock is part of our artisan skill set improvement project, & the full collection took 1.5 years plus to get made. The front ghera (flare) is heavily embroidered with Mango Bark, the bust is done up with minimal flower & bel boota. The back has one statement Aamra Manjari motif & rest has small scattered flowers. It is a beautiful dress to be worn in any weather & any occasion - work, beach holiday, fort holidays, home working. It can be dressed up as a Kurta and dressed down as a tunic on the beach.
Important: This cut is called Oreb. Please note that the kurta is not asymmetrical, but cut in Oreb style.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Sometime back I had conceptualised a saree, and named it Biryani chawal saree. I think that video is still available to see on our IG Videos. In that video i had mentioned that the Murri stitch resembles Sela variety of rice, used for making Biryani. That entire saree was dominated by very rare Murri stitch, which is quite difficult to do, and hence is done less now. KHAYAL (moodboard): Swarna Paatra or Golden leaf finds its mention in Puranic legends. A leaf of Gold that grants its finder magical powers of healing, and cures them of all doshas. Mango parties are held in plush orchards, cozy homes all through Lucknow. Some people skip dinner time meals completely to only relish mangoes as long as they last. How can the most loved & anticipated for fruit not form an iconic imagery in the city's craft, Chikankari?- Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas

KHAYAL (moodboard): The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.
POSHAAK (about the dress): The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love in this Meiraas Exclusive Semi Stitched Kurta made on Handloom Cotton. A gentle smattering of Mukaish adds the starry charm to this harmonious flight - Power of Silence. The lace adds charm & romance to the ethereal Kurta. While the Kurta is not exactly opaque as it is White, it is a Cotton Kurta with Chikankari & will not necessarily need lining, unless you choose to take one.
Additional Details: This Kurta can be stitched up-till sizes S (small) to XXL (Extra Extra Large) only. Please select your size & we will stitch it complimentary. Ready Length: Approx. 44 inches (this is meant to be 60s inspired knee length or just below the knee).

KHAYAL (moodboard):
The motifs here represent the beauty of the "graam" or village of Awadh, just on the outskirts of the historic city of Lucknow.
The "mrig" (deer) following the Kastoori (fragrance) of "Mrignayani" (lady) is a poetry etched in Chikankari. This block was made by the son of our block print master. We were so encouraged to see the young generation's interest in creating such artful motifs that we adopted this motif as part of Meiraas collection.
POSHAAK (about the dress): The Mrig and Mrignayani are embroidered in Turquoise Blue in this Meiraas Exclusive Semi Stitched Kurta made on Handloom Cotton. A gentle smattering of Mukaish adds the starry charm to this harmonious flight - Power of Silence. The lace adds charm & romance to the ethereal Kurta. KHAYAL (moodboard): Kabootarbaazi is inherent to the culture of Lucknow and Awadh. Whether romanced in Ruskin Bond's period novella "A Flight of the Pigeons" or appearing aesthetically in Ray's "Shatranj ke Khiladi", Pigeons and the skyline of Lucknow is synonymous with each other. Seen here is White Chikankari embroidered Kabootar in the EXCLUSIVE MOTIF created by Meiraas under Falaknuma Collection. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018.
