KHAYAAL (Mood-board): The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours and palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. Padma Toran, or the Garland of Lotus, is a devotion to Sri Lakshmi. This stunning piece of Wearable Art, that carries with it the finest fragrance of Awadhi couture, has a detailed border of Lotus and its buds running all through the length and width of the saree border. Dancing Peacocks are perched on the palla of the saree, all in obeisance to the Maha Lakshmi. Asymmetrical galaxy and star patterns fill the saree, and its regal and subtly rich colour is an ode to the deity herself. Padma Toran is for the Lakshmi within you. It is a piece de resistance, and one that creates new Heirlooms and Textile Traditions. POSHAAK (About the garment): Padma Toran is a saree meant to cherish and pass on for its sheer body of artistry, both with its unique concept and painstaking melange of three Heritage hand embroideries of Awadh - Resham Chikankari, Qasab Taar Aari and Zardozi, that have come together on this poetry of a saree. The Padma Toran or Lotus border is hand embroidered first with Resham Chikankari in soft golden cream hue on Old Rose base. Each Lotus is hand cut with Qasab Taar Jaali in Gold. Along with this, each Lotus bud is highlighted with Qasab Taar ghaspatti stitch in Silver, making the saree a Sona Rupa (Silver Gold), rarest of rare combination in Chikankari embroidery. The grand Dancing Peacocks on the Palla are also highlighted with Murri stitch in Silver Qasab Taar. After Chikankari artisans, the saree travelled to the Zardozi artisans, where an Ustaad first hand embroidered each motif painstakingly with Gold Qasab Taar in Aari hand embroidery, with minutest attention to detail. After this level of embroidery was completed, the saree was embellished with a lot of precision in Zardozi hand embroidery, with Cutdaana, Pearls, micro sequins, rainbow beads of very premium quality. Each of these embellishments is micro in vision, but glows with a brilliant sheen under lights. The Old Rose hue of the Tissue Georgette saree adds to the regal drama of this scalloped beauty. Just like the legendary flower, this kurta reminds one of the Chikankari of the more Innocent Age of fine Craftsmanship! POSHAAK (about the dress): Let us take you into the embroidery of this kurta step by step! The neckline has a very fine Murri, Shadow and Ghaspatti bel. The same gets repeated on the sleeve! Its a rarity to see these two embossed stitches together in this layout. A statement antique motif of Conch Shell shaped flower adorns the tunic on the front & the back. This motif has the following very finely done stitches in Kaccha Taagha - Jaali, Hathkati (2 cutworks together), Murri, Ghaspatti, Orma, Phanda. Miniature Floral Motifs adorn the rest of the kurta in a delicate flowy pattern of falling blooms. The tunic is a visual poetry. The Kaccha Taar Chikankari refers to Chikankari done with unreeled, raw thread. The filament of such cotton thread is extremely fine. It has to be taken out from the raw clump by hand, retted by hand, and made pliable for embroidery by hand everytime, unlike a reeled thread that is ready to use. This thread gives the look & finish of the Golden Age Chikankari that one can find in Textile Books and Craft Museums. Jambumani or the Rich Amethyst Purple, is a stunning Resham Chikankari kurta made on handwoven Eri Silk fabric, for possibly the very first time! A true connoiseur’s delight! Please note that Eri or Ahimsa Silk is one of the most premium fabrics of the World. Produced in weaving clusters of Assam, this silk is handspun & handwoven. It is also known as Wild Silk, as it is not obtained from farmed silkworms. This Silk is called Ahimsa or Peace Silk, because the silk extraction process here, allows the silkworms to leave their cocoon. Only after that, silk is extracted, making this a Cruelty Free Yarn. Eri Silk is thermostatic in nature, making it all weather compatible. It improves with age & use, making it one of the most sustainable & sought after fabrics. KHAYAL (mood-board): Jambumani is the Sanskrit name for Rich Purple Amethyst. Since time immemorial, considered a plush hue for the royals, Jambumani exudes a calming, yet rich aura. An essence also unique to the Chikankari Craft. POSHAAK (about the dress): Jambumani Resham Chikankari Eri Silk Kurta has a beautiful floral motif with many rare stitches of Chikankari, displayed in a very delicate and old world pattern. The kurta embroidery has stitches like Qasab Taar Jaali (very difficult to do on Eri Silk due to fabric density), Ghaspatti, Shadow, Orma, Murri, Phanda, etc. amongst other stitches of the Craft. The elegant motif is falling from one shoulder in a beautiful artistic pattern. Miniature motifs of Cherry and Ambi add the delicate touch all over the kurta, alongside the primary motif. The sleeves have the same miniature motif, along with ghaspatti bel detailing. The back has the primary floral motif as the statement back. The kurta is dyed to a plush, rich purple shade.
