“There is a dialogue exchange in one of my favourite director, Satyajit Ray's, historical classic based on my city, Lucknow, Shatranj Ke Khiladi. The scene is like this - General Outram (portrayed very effectively by British actor Sir Richard Attenborough), the British appointed Resident at Lucknow, is conversing with a British doctor and legal practitioner, Ferra, on the ways to annex Awadh. During the conversation, General Outram, a true Brit, remarks on the perfume that the Nawab wears, which he calls "extraordinary" in sarcasm, but complains that his uniform reeks of it, even 3 months after the interview with the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Ferra remarks that the perfume is " attar", a Damask Rose Parfum made locally in Awadh. The slight on this fabulous perfume from Awadh was hurtful, yet expected from a character like Outram, who did not understand concepts of Indian aesthetics and was brought up to demean them. My mind however got stuck on Ferra's explanation of "Perfume of Damask Rose". My personal collection of perfumes is only of Ittar from Awadh - Khus, Gulaab, Sandal - being my absolute favourite. I always wanted to incorporate their name into a luxury piece created in Meiraas. So here is presenting a whiff of Sandalwood Ittar through weaves & crafts of India - The Sandal Ittar Dupatta ” - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas.
A true museum art piece, the Sandal Ittar dupatta, is an exemplary piece of Luxury Chikankari. Created on supple Handwoven Tussar Silk, the dupatta is crafted on the natural shade of Tussar Silk, a Golden beige, as balmy as Sandal, and embroidered upon with the same coloured resham thread.
The highlight of this luxury dupatta is the fantastic Jaali work with Gold Qasab taar (jaali stitch made using zari filament vis a vis thread, which means it is more difficult, rare and time taking to create). The Sandal Ittar Dupatta is finished on either daaman with crochet lace dyed in the same colour. It is a fragrance of true art!!
Please Note: Email us at namaste@meiraas.com if you wish to make a kurta to go with this dupatta, or wish to change the dupatta fabric. We will take the conversation forward.

Swarna, or the one that is Gold! This Gold Zari Silk Kurta & Dupatta ensemble from Meiraas, is anointed with delicate Resham Chikankari. A statement in itself, not much, but subtle accessories are needed, after one wears this kurta.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery.
2. Novel motif art & layout created using hand carved motifs following all processes.
3. Handloom Zari Silk for Kurta
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Swarna is a hue we love! We introduced the fabric of Zari Silk (or Tissue) with Resham Chikankari, back in 2020, with our Dhanlakshmi collection. Since then, this is one of our most revered & loved creations.
Our moodboard was inspired by the ancient Indian sculptures that showcased very intricate & deep work on rich fabrics. We wanted to explore this unexplored dimension with Chikankari work, and it turned out ethereal!!
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The Swarna Ambi dupatta has beautiful Gold Ambi motifs on two sides of the daaman diagonally. The workmanship in the Ambi motif is exquisite with many rare stitches, including qasab taar ki jaali. The rest of the dupatta is embroidered with a very intricate miniature diskette shaped floral motif, which is further highlighted by Mukaish embroidery. The delicate, yet rich dupatta is made on Tissue Georgette fabric allowing a light weight & flattering drape. Please see the full dupatta images by scrolling till the end.
Swarna tunic, on the other hand, is made in Handloom Gold Zari Silk, with Resham Chikankari floral booti scattered in minimalist design mood board, as that is all this fabric needs to dress up. We wanted to create a more functional Kurti for the festive & wedding seasons, where one is running between events, & wants elegance and opulence, ready at their fingertips.
Just add some well chosen diamonds or emeralds with this Kurti, for a rich and yet sublime look.
There is a difference of shades in Swarna Ambi dupatta & Kurta. The dupatta is very light Gold, while the Kurta is Gold (please refer to the images). When worn together, they both complement each other very well, in giving a gradient effect. The pants should be made to match the Kurta.
If you wish to add plain Glazed Cotton pants in same shade to match, you can select the same from Glazed Cotton Plain Pants and in Customer Note mention: Please make Pants to match the selected set. We will do the needful

2. Antiquemotif art & layout created using hand carved motifs following all processes.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Amer motif was created by us in the year 2020. The motif is a replica of Amer Fort, Jaipur Guldaan art done in Molten Glass in the original monument. This motif inspired us to create a range of Amer inspired Chikankari garments, as artfully, Amer Fort is one of the most beautiful forts we have seen so far.
To add to this, Noir, is a series we had created a couple of years back, to celebrate a new dimension in Chikankari embroidery - the tone on tone dark. We started this process with Black, & since then have tried Moss Green, and now moving to explore Oxblood shade. This kind of Chikankari is the opposite of classic & ethereal White on White or pastel Tone on Tone. This is rich, decadent, sultry, elegant, mysterious & yet, stately.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This rich Oxblood shade kurta has a beautiful ghaspatti bel neckline. It features an antique late 19th Century miniature flower vase motif, which also finds its parallel in Amer fort. This is why we picked this motif to go along with the grand Amer motif newly crafted by us.
This motif is scattered on the sleeves and front of the Kurta, and the back has the grand Amer Vase motif, along with keel bootis.
It is a beautiful, artful Kurta that is sure to turn heads and become a conversation starter.

KHAYAL (mood-board):
The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The pastel olive green Kurta has embroidery in lovely golden colour with resham thread, making it a unique pastel on pastel play Kurta.

KHAYAL (mood-board):
Was the jewellery inspired by crafts & motifs, or were the classic motifs inspired by the jewellery?
The answers can be varied, but the result is guarenteed to be breathtaking, either ways.
Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers bloom in the month when spring ends. Their lovely yellow peach hue when boiled in water & the mellow, invigorating fragrance invoked feelings of Shringaar since ancient days.
These two thoughts formed the design moodboard of this Kurta.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This phiran style Chanderi kurta was inspired by the cut of some dresses from 19th Century, that are housed in National Museum. We wanted to design something unique with such a cut, hence a jewellery inspired theme was adopted, where we found motifs that aligned with our moodboard.
We also married the thought of Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers and how their vibrant canopy looks all over the Northern part of India, at the start of summers. Therefore, we curated motifs & stitches that will give the effect of a mellow flame, as Tesu, when boiled in water gives a pleasing yellow-peach hue & a mellow fragrance.
The Kurta has a heavy necklace design, which we pieced together to design like a 'haar' or a necklace of flowers. Qasab taar jaali was cut in each motif, along with Murri stitch, that gave the impression of flame.
The statement motif at the back also has an antique motif that was decorated with upward facing murri stitch on the outer rim, to give the effect of mellow flame.
The sleeves & body have floral motifs to represent the cusp of spring and summer.
The Resham Chikankari done is very intricate & painstaking, which will take a true connoisseur to see & understand. The phiran is an even more elegant and dressy turn on the classic Chikankari kurta. It will be accompanied with a detachable slip.
