Khayal: Moodboard FISH motif is one of the most celebrated icons of Awadh's heritage & history. The Fish Emblem was sacred to the Nawab royalty of Lucknow & Awadh, and its inspiration looms large on the many architectural landmarks across Awadh, that are now seeing the ravages of time. We have already created an Original Chikankari Motif of the Fish Emblem, we now wanted to create a revival of the iconic symbol in another masterpiece art of Awadh - Daraz applique. The Awadhi Crafts are versatile with hand arts beyond Chikankari; Many crafts like Daraz, Mukaish, Aari, Zardozi have a unique standing of their own, yet are now relegated as an add on to Chikan in their most basic & non creative form. Daraz applique is one of them. Poshaak: (about the dress) This beautiful summer fresh classic kurta has a unique daraz fish motif embroidery along the length of the kurta in the front. This was recreated in reference to an archival work housed in V&A Museum currently. The kurta has black Chikankari embroidery in antique miniature motif (rare to find such small & detailed motifs now) in the front, & Meiraas Exclusive Fish emblem statement motif. The cut of this kurta is single kali, which ensures better fall & grace. It is one of a kind Chikankari kurta, that is sure to become a conversation starter.

SUSTAINABLE MEIRAAS CHIKANKARI KHAYAL (moodboard): Ruskin Bond's novella "A Flight of Pigeons" is set in Shahjahanbad, Uttar Pradesh, during India's first recorded War of Independence against British Raj in 1857. The story, though a love story in the intent, is a lot more than that. It is a beautiful story of camaraderie in such bleak times between English women who are left as survivors of an aftermath, & extreme kindness & compassion they end up sharing with Indians where they take shelter. The friendship between "Kothiwali" an aging matriarch & Mariam, the English lady is lovely. The Cotton Frock, Aamramanjari, is an ode to this friendship & hence is made in a style that passes for both Indian & English. Aamra Manjari or Mango Blossoms is the name given to the beautiful embroidery, as that belt of Uttar Pradesh is dominated by rows and rows of Mango plantations. Just like the tender & joyous blossoms, the friendship of women in this story is unassuming, under rated, yet most beautiful. POSHAAK (about the outfit): Aamra Manjari Cotton Frock is made on Soft Pure Cotton. This frock is part of our artisan skill set improvement project, & the full collection took 1.5 years plus to get made. The front ghera (flare) is heavily embroidered with Mango Bark, the bust is done up with minimal flower & bel boota. The back has one statement Aamra Manjari motif & rest has small scattered flowers. It is a beautiful dress to be worn in any weather & any occasion - work, beach holiday, fort holidays, home working. It can be dressed up as a Kurta and dressed down as a tunic on the beach. Khayal (moodboard): When creating this dress, we wanted to delve into the very functional old school tailoring, that is rare to find now. This is a fine Jacket style front open Kurta dress. The style is borrowed from Achkan worn by Nawab Aristocracy in the old days. The design is made more contemporary & has been reimagined for women. The embroidery has minimalist and antique sensibility, with focus given to fine quality craftsmanship. Mother of Pearl buttons add a regal grace to this dress. Poshaak (about the garment): The old school tailored Linen Achkan Dress, has front open styling. The Resham Chikankari has been done in a V shape on the front with two colour threads - White & Firozi. This has been done to bring out the beauty of the work & material both. The back has an antique Paan motif that can be found in antique research books of the craft. It is a truly a travel back in fashion times, but with a contemporary twist. The stitching of this Achkan Kurta was perfected after numerous trials. It has been heavily researched & antique masterclass stitching expertise has been revived for it, so that it fits all body types, especially Indian. The button patti has a broad strip of fabric on the inside of the kurta to provide full coverage & comfort in any posture. This product is Made on Order. Masterclass dupatta with 2 antique motifs in a design pattern - the Paan Boota & the Chaand Boota. This resham Chikankari Hand Embroidery Dupatta is made on handwoven Organza with Ganga Jamuna borders of Tested Zari Gold & Silver on either side. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Century plus antique Chikankari motif found and restored for use.
  2. Masterclass Jaali stitch using Zari filament, which is extremely difficult to do.
  3. High quality stitches using Resham taar filament

Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): This bright yellow dupatta has 2 antique Chikankari motifs - Paan and Chaand. Both motifs have very intricate detailing inside them. The bootas are placed on diagonal ends of the dupatta, & the body is filled with 3 miniature motif cluster all through. KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful. The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti. With all the traits that Jane has & keeps each separate from the other, Elizabeth's character is a beautifully aligned composition of each one of them in a neat & witty package. KHAYAL (moodboard): Champaai is a coloquial and beautiful colour name for White, and is commonly used in Lucknow's language. Champaai is used to describe anything that is beautiful, soft & pristine white, like Champa flowers. This word has been often used to describe lovely feet of ladies or their glowing complexion, by the poets of Lucknow; on the other hand, it has also been used to describe the all White on White Chikankari attire worn by a lady of society, who further decorates herself with pearls and diamonds. Her clothes are then called "Champaai Joda" (all white ensemble). While it could be said "Safed Joda", calling it Champaai makes it even more poetic, & shows appreciation for the styling done by the lady. This was the inspiration behind this soft jewel of a dupatta.
