KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): This is one of a kind Conceptual work. Paan Gilauri & Aam ki Kairi are two iconographic motifs of Lucknow & its heritage craft, Chikankari. We used our Shahi Paan motif and filled it inside with small Kairi paisley motifs. The outside border of the Paan has stunning Jaali work one such a large surface, a one of a kind piece of art visible no where. The border is further decorated with extremely tough Murri stitch. This is a masterpiece amethyst colour Dupatta. The Paan motif is one 2 corners of the dupatta diagonally. Rest of the dupatta has Keel Kangan booti allover. KHAYAL (moodboard): Have you ever seen Lucknow's famous 500 plus year old dessert recipe, Malai Gilauri? For those who have not, it is Malai or Khurchan cooked over hours, that is removed from the sides of a paan, when cooled down. The layer of cooked Malai is then decorated with many beautiful condiments - pistachios, almonds, sugar, kewra water - before rolling into a Gilauri. The process just before making the Gilauri is a beautiful sight. This motif with the finest stitches of most beautiful & complex embroidery, and Jaali stitch, reminds us of the Gilauri, just before getting folded and bound into a mouthful of sweet bliss. POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta has 3 Malai Gilauri motifs along the centre length, making it look full, yet not overwhelming, so that the extremely beautiful Gilauri motif looks clutter free and neat, resting upon delicate Organza. Teasing the fabric apart to the precise extent, and creating perfect trellis pattern with Zari Filament (which is almost invisible to the eye), is the speciality of this heirloom Dupatta. KHAYAL (moodboard): Jane Bennett is a character in Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. She is one of the five lovely Bennett sisters, & is another underrated character. She has all the characteristics of a classic heroine - beautiful, calm, composed, gentle, kind with a need to see good in everyone - yet she is more of a non central protagonist in the book. Many readers find Jane very placid & simple, yet I see many character traits in Jane that are tied up better in her dearest & closest sister, Elizabeth. Jane just knows how to keep one trait apart from another. This is why this buttery Organza Dupatta with same motif in three diverse colours of Pink, Yellow & Blue symbolises Jane the best. KHAYAAL (moodboard): Kamal Sarovar Grande is a customised saree of the original Kamal Sarovar saree we had made in 2020 that can be seen here The creation of this saree was magnificent. Kamal Sarovar was born out of a dream to create a river full of blooming lotuses. Only a complete jaal saree could do proper justice to the thought. We wanted the base of the saree to have a soft pearly glow to represent a water body glistening in the morning sunlight, when the Lotuses have started blooming for the day. Our handwoven Chanderi fabric was the best option. A contrast pastel colour is used to create blossoming Lotuses all through the saree. This saree is a work of wearable art & a visually aesthetic masterpiece!! POSHAAK (about the saree): The expanse of Grey Chanderi Handloom saree plays with delicate Pink Kamal Sarovar embroidery in Resham Chikankari, all over the body. Each flower & leaf in the embroidery comes alive with glistening Mukaish stars that add mystical allure to this beautiful combination. The saree is finished with handmade Pure Silk selvage in the reverse side in the colour of embroidery, & trimmed with Crochet lace detailing in the colour of the embroidery. - KHAYAAL (moodboard): The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear, we wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours & palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. After successfully venturing into Gold, Silver hues, and Pearl, Firoza, Precious stones like Tourmaline, Agate hues, we wanted to include Gemstone shades. Even as we though about it, it was amply clear to us that this is only possible on Tussar Silk from Bhagalpur looms. Tussar Silk is one of the most perfect fabrics for antique quality Chikankari; it is appropriately supple, tenacious, luminous at the same time, & yet it's earthy texture provides a rich background for elegant stitches of Chikankari, and in gemstones colour we want. Harinmani is Sanskrit word for Emerald. This beautiful light Emerald saree is an Heirloom Piece for your wardrobe, that will create the wearer's own heritage till they wear it, that they can hand down to generations that will love to showcase it in a private viewing perhaps!! POSHAAK (about the saree): Harinmani is our first set of Dhanlakshami Chikankari saree on Handspun and Handwoven Tussar Silk, a dream that we had been working on for past 2 years. The pallu has very old archived motifs, re created recently in our unit. The stitched used are of 3 broad quality: Embossing, Surface Texture and Hand CutWork. The palla has a rare quality of “ulti bakhiya” or Reverse Shadow that is now used extremely less, as higher embroidery filament count and “chaalu/rough” embroidery style started making it look very vulgar; but with the fine handwork that Meiraas employs and 2 taar Resham Chikankari, the result is stunning, rare and exquisite. The stars of Mukaish anoint this saree strategically. If the palla is viewed from the top, it gives the impression of an ancient, well laid out city!!! The beautiful light emerald saree (an auspicious colour for all weddings and festivals), is finished with complimenting yellow Tussar silk selvedge. Health, Happiness, Contentment, Compassion, Calmness, Consciousness are the real attributes of Wealth that help in building a society of Dhan Lakshmi. True, every society needs money, but Dhan Lakshmi brings with her the attributes that let us understand the Art of Living, not just the Science of Earning.

POSHAAK (about the saree):

Swarna Lakshmi is a beautiful saree we first made in 2020, and since then have made various versions of this saree on Order.

Hand embroidered painstakingly with Resham 3 Taar Chikankari, on a base of Handloom Zari x Silk, this luxurious drape has an antique border on 3 sides of the saree, along with an unconventional motif on the palla. This divine saree has floral bootis in the body, and is finished with selvedge & gold lace detailing. It is a saree that can be worn for weddings, dining out on special occasions, festivals, ghazal or jazz evenings. These are sarees to be cherished, maintained carefully & pass down to future generations. The drape of the saree is engulfing, easy to carry, fluid and yet regal. This helps the pleats fall beautifully, and yet not make it so heavy that it becomes difficult to carry. These sarees are extremely tough to make, as it needs ambient lighting for the embroidery to be possible, therefore cherish them as very rare pieces of art. Imp: No order of this saree can be taken in Monsoons (July - September).

Lucknow - a city of Gold & Silver!! In Kenize Mourad's historical part history part fiction "In the City of Gold & Silver", Lucknow amongst Awadh is detailed as a land of Gold & Silver symbiotic. It is a symbolism for the syncretic culture of Awadh, where two ideologies or thoughts had a place to survive together. It also symbolises the rich court of Awadh dynasty, where the aristocracy spent its days in the riches that the fertile Indo Gangetic plains yielded, and immersed themselves in Art, Culture, Music, Poetry. The book had a profound effect on us to create two such weaves - Gold Zari Silk & Silver Zari Silk. A symbol of the now lost Awadh.

Bijli Boota is a name given to this motif by our team of karigars, as its core has Bijli stitch. This motif has been recreated using an archived motif from a well documented book on Heritage Chikankari.

The dupatta is Lilac Zari Silk with tones of Silver. It is a unique weave commissioned by Meiraas for Chikankari. It is pure Zari in Taana, Pure Zari in Baana & little bit of Pure Silk to bind this Work of Art together. Meiraas has been a leader in bringing Chikankari art on Metallic Zari Silk. The dupatta has miniature Chandramukhi Flower motif that dates back almost 2 centuries, & was possibly used for Block Print & is now being re purposed for Chikankari.
