FISH motif is one of the most celebrated icons of Awadh's heritage & history. The Fish Emblem was sacred to the Nawab royalty of Lucknow & Awadh, and its inspiration looms large on the many architectural landmarks across Awadh, that are now seeing the ravages of time. We have already created an Original Chikankari Motif of the Fish Emblem, we now wanted to create a revival of the iconic symbol in another masterpiece art of Awadh - Daraz applique.
The Awadhi Crafts are versatile with hand arts beyond Chikankari; Many crafts like Daraz, Mukaish, Aari, Zardozi have a unique standing of their own, yet are now relegated as an add on to Chikan in their most basic & non creative form. Daraz applique is one of them.
Poshaak: (about the dress)
This beautiful summer fresh classic kurta has a unique daraz fish motif embroidery along the length of the kurta in the front. The cut of this kurta is single kali, which ensures better fall & grace.
It is one of a kind Chikankari kurta, that is sure to become a conversation starter.

SUSTAINABLE MEIRAAS CHIKANKARIKHAYAL (moodboard): Ruskin Bond's novella "A Flight of Pigeons" is set in Shahjahanbad, Uttar Pradesh, during India's first recorded War of Independence against British Raj in 1857. The story, though a love story in the intent, is a lot more than that. It is a beautiful story of camaraderie in such bleak times between English women who are left as survivors of an aftermath, & extreme kindness & compassion they end up sharing with Indians where they take shelter. The friendship between "Kothiwali" an aging matriarch & Mariam, the English lady is lovely. The Cotton Frock, Aamramanjari, is an ode to this friendship & hence is made in a style that passes for both Indian & English.
Aamra Manjari or Mango Blossoms is the name given to the beautiful embroidery, as that belt of Uttar Pradesh is dominated by rows and rows of Mango plantations. Just like the tender & joyous blossoms, the friendship of women in this story is unassuming, under rated, yet most beautiful.
POSHAAK (about the outfit): Aamra Manjari Cotton Frock is made on Soft Pure Cotton. This frock is part of our artisan skill set improvement project, & the full collection took 1.5 years plus to get made. The front ghera (flare) is heavily embroidered with Mango Bark, the bust is done up with minimal flower & bel boota. The back has one statement Aamra Manjari motif & rest has small scattered flowers. It is a beautiful dress to be worn in any weather & any occasion - work, beach holiday, fort holidays, home working. It can be dressed up as a Kurta and dressed down as a tunic on the beach.
Important: This cut is called Oreb. Please note that the kurta is not asymmetrical, but cut in Oreb style.

Artisan Skill Enhancement: The dresses are embroidered by our Rajnigandha unit, who till 2019 were used to working on what is termed as "chaalu kaam" or fast moving Chikankari goods. They had never worked on such a skilled piece that helped them invest more creative hours & therefore earn better piece with creative satisfaction
Paan Motif: Usage of the much less used Paan Motif in regular work also, so that this motif can be revived.
Handloom Chanderi fabric: Making this dress a Handwoven & Handcrafted delight
KHAYAL (Moodboard): "When I was going to design Kalidar Dresses for my portfolio, I started with seeing what was available in Chikankari Kalidar Dresses in general. I was quite disappointed then seeing the spangly and strictly One Time Wear Kalidars that lacked classic appeal and clearly could be worn in very loud gatherings. It is definitely not the style of Meiraas.
Here I would also like to divulge, that at the risk of losing business, I have put my foot down on making “gowns” (whatever that means) and One Time Wears as much as I could.
For my Kalidar Dresses, I revisited some films from 1960s, where Kalidar Frocks, both Knee Length and Calf Length were worn by vintage actresses. The ease, the charm, the subtlety and the flow - I wanted that. I will especially recall Sadhana’s short one in Mere Mehboob, and Padmini’s beautiful orange one in Mera Naam Joker, in a Qawali song. Smart, easy to dress up and down, laidback and classic.
Something you can wear anywhere, anytime.
Here’s presenting a series on one of my favourite themes - Dolce Far Niente aka The Sweetness of Doing Nothing”

KHAYAL (mood board):"When i had designed the first Tunic & Palazzo set (it was yellow and my personal set), i was very new into this work & having grown up seeing Chikankari wanted something radically different in motifs and layout, yet something that does not defeat or overpower the elegant & laidback mood that the craft is identified with & loved for. I continue to be a rebel in my thoughts about designing Chikankari pieces & by now that has become a signature style of Meiraas. This ensemble was designed to be something you can slip on easily in casual or formal meetings in India, & as comfortably carry them in SoHo, New York or a French Countryside in a vineyard possibly. The idea was my rebellious little mind that wanted tradition to carry on, yet break from the pattern and do it" - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Design, MeiraasPOSHAAK (about the product):
Soft cotton Chikankari Tunic (Kurta) in Meiraas Exclusive Patta Boota Motif. The interesting part of this Motif Embroidery is the clever confluence of two styles of embroidery in one motif, both native to Lucknow, Aari & Chikankari. The Flower is filled with Aari stitch, whereas the rest of the motif is done in Chikankari. Both seamlessly come together in a perfect symbiosis.
About the Tunic (Kurta): The length is 41 inches for each Kurta. This length can be shortened 2 inches only on request. The motifs are 3 on hemline, one each on either shoulder. Please mention your size as per size chart on checkout.
About the Palazzo (Pants): The waistband is belt style (flat) in front & elastic at the back. The motif comes 1 each on each leg. Length is 37 inches and can be altered.

POSHAAK (about the product):
Gulaab - Pink has always been an uplifting hue for Indians. The legendary fashion editor of Vogue, Diana Vreeland once commented "Pink is the Navy Blue of India", denoting the significance the hue has for Indians.
While Pink is often pigeonholed as feminine in Western parlance, in India the feminine energy has deep significance since ancient period.
We equate feminine energy with grace, softness, nurturing ability that can appreciate art and aesthetics. Pink is the colour of Lotus and Rose for us. The feminine energy that gave these qualities was held in high esteem by men of Ancient India too, and hence was embraced by them.
This is why Pink is important hue for India.
This Pastel Rose Pink Chikankari Kurta made on soft cotton has a Round and V design, showing beautiful décolletage, and comfortable in the sweltering months.
