KHAYAL (mood-board):
Noir is desire, Noir is decadence, Noir is dark, Noir is a mood. Chikankari Noir is a moodboard introduced by Meiraas as a reversal of the classic White on White Chikankari. The Noir version is the Black Swan to the classic White Swan Chikankari. It is rarer, deeper and goes to darker depths of mystery.
Noir was first introduced as a concept on Silks (Tussar & Chanderi), and now it is has its equally stunning Pure Linen version with exemplary antique 2 taar embroidery done on antique motifs with masterclass detailing.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The front of the kurta has a rich antique neckline with embossing stitches of Chikankari like ghaspatti, murri, keel, phanda, that helps the dark embroidery stand out. The back has a stunning antique motif of a psychedelic flower arrangement, that gets its dark version in rare stitches of embossing & hand cut work like hathkati with gold Zari Taar.
It is one incredible masterpiece & will be the most preferred wear for almost any occasion, by simple dressing up & down of accessories.

Whether romanced in Ruskin Bond’s period novella “A Flight of the Pigeons” or appearing aesthetically in Ray’s “Shatranj ke Khiladi”, Pigeons and the skyline of Lucknow is synonymous with each other. Seen here is Kabootar (Pigeon) in the romantic Mehraab (Archways) in the EXCLUSIVE MOTIF created by Meiraas under Falaknuma Collection. When you think of Chikankari, you invariably think of the Classic fine quality thread work, that once defined the look of this embroidery . There is an ethereal charm of that era of Chikankari, that seems like a whisper of the soul whose hands embellished the fine fabric. They carry the joy, the tears, the stories, the candour that the artisans shared, while the needles brought alive each Flower, Knot, Trellis; but how much more beautiful would it be, if this whisper of Fine Chikankari was not just relegated to beautiful coffee table books & museums as part of archived history of Textiles. It is heart wrenching to see beautiful embroidery motifs of Chikankari housed in Textile Museums, to be gawped at, but designated to a fate where they shall never be part of someone else’s story.
Shahi Paan Kurta is our endeavour from The Art and Antiquities Project of Meiraas, for which we travel through museums, seek crafts in Temples and study Historical archived images, so that the Queens in us can make these designs a part of our unique story again

KHAYAL (mood-board):
The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.

The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The pastel pink Kurta has embroidery in fresh green colour, making it a unique pastel on pastel play Kurta.
The Kurta is accompanied by a Dupatta in Handloom Organza fabric with Gold and Silver Zari Ganga Jamuna borders. The Dupatta has a stunning Crescent Moon motif with Cranes flying atop it in two diagonal konia, and floral bootas allover the body.

Patta Patta Boota Boota is a poem by Mir Taqi Mir, a celebrated poet of both Delhi School of Poetry & Lucknow School of Poetry. His beautiful poem is the Khayal or inspiration to name this Boota that finds itself as part of Murals in all Rajasthani, Luckhnavi, Delhi art 15th Century onwards or maybe even later. This motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018.

We dreamt of Chikankari on Linen, with small wisps of Resham Blossoms of the craft sprouting on the fabric, like spring invoking the birth of fresh flowers from the Earth, after the first melting of the snow. Experimenting on Linen fabric was always a vision we saw, as a possible replacement to the antique quality Chikankari done on Bengal Muslin, which is rare and largely inaccessible now. We wanted the moodboard to be Soft Romance of nature against a gossamer, sustainable fabric.
