The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. The Kurta cut inspired by a phiran, housed in the National Museum, Delhi.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Was the jewellery inspired by crafts & motifs, or were the classic motifs inspired by the jewellery?
The answers can be varied, but the result is guarenteed to be breathtaking, either ways.
Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers bloom in the month when spring ends. Their lovely yellow peach hue when boiled in water & the mellow, invigorating fragrance invoked feelings of Shringaar since ancient days.
These two thoughts formed the design moodboard of this Kurta.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This phiran style Chanderi kurta was inspired by the cut of some dresses from 19th Century, that are housed in National Museum. We wanted to design something unique with such a cut, hence a jewellery inspired theme was adopted, where we found motifs that aligned with our moodboard.
We also married the thought of Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers and how their vibrant canopy looks all over the Northern part of India, at the start of summers. Therefore, we curated motifs & stitches that will give the effect of a mellow flame, as Tesu, when boiled in water gives a pleasing yellow-peach hue & a mellow fragrance.
The Kurta has a heavy necklace design, which we pieced together to design like a 'haar' or a necklace of flowers. Qasab taar jaali was cut in each motif, along with Murri stitch, that gave the impression of flame.
The statement motif at the back also has an antique motif that was decorated with upward facing murri stitch on the outer rim, to give the effect of mellow flame.
The sleeves & body have floral motifs to represent the cusp of spring and summer.
The Resham Chikankari done is very intricate & painstaking, which will take a true connoisseur to see & understand. The phiran is an even more elegant and dressy turn on the classic Chikankari kurta. It will be accompanied with a detachable slip.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Orange Biskoot or Biscuit reminds me of a bakery in Lucknow (confused whether Good Bakery or Burma Bakery), that made these subtle orange flavoured nankhatai sort of biscuits. The colour had a hint of orange, and they tasted very subtly of the orange flavour, like just about. They were my favourites back then.Gradually either they stopped being made, or newer bakeries came up with truffles and what not, we did grow apart; yet the memory lingers - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas

The sleeves also have the back motif one each on either sleeve. Rest of the Kurta is plain, so that both self pattern fabric & Chikankari on it can neatly shine through.

Mango parties are held in plush orchards, cozy homes all through Lucknow. Some people skip dinner time meals completely to only relish mangoes as long as they last. I have used it in sarees, and even got a version done for Zardozi dupatta. I now wanted to created Chaand motif bel, a heritage antique one, on more functional everyday elegant luxury pieces.
