Please note that Eri or Ahimsa Silk is one of the most premium fabrics of the World. Produced in weaving clusters of Assam, this silk is handspun & handwoven. It is also known as Wild Silk, as it is not obtained from farmed silkworms. This Silk is called Ahimsa or Peace Silk, because the silk extraction process here, allows the silkworms to leave their cocoon. Only after that, silk is extracted, making this a Cruelty Free Yarn. Eri Silk is thermostatic in nature, making it all weather compatible. It improves with age & use, making it one of the most sustainable & sought after fabrics. KHAYAL (mood-board): Jambumani is the Sanskrit name for Rich Purple Amethyst. Since time immemorial, considered a plush hue for the royals, Jambumani exudes a calming, yet rich aura. An essence also unique to the Chikankari Craft. POSHAAK (about the dress): Jambumani Resham Chikankari Eri Silk Kurta has a beautiful floral motif with many rare stitches of Chikankari, displayed in a very delicate and old world pattern. The kurta embroidery has stitches like Qasab Taar Jaali (very difficult to do on Eri Silk due to fabric density), Ghaspatti, Shadow, Orma, Murri, Phanda, etc. amongst other stitches of the Craft. The elegant motif is falling from one shoulder in a beautiful artistic pattern. Miniature motifs of Cherry and Ambi add the delicate touch all over the kurta, alongside the primary motif. The sleeves have the same miniature motif, along with ghaspatti bel detailing. The back has the primary floral motif as the statement back. The kurta is dyed to a plush, rich purple shade. KHAYAL (mood-board): A dream…a desire...a reverie! A Walk in the Clouds! When textiles woven in looms were lighter than the air, when times were slow and carefree, when a life was well lived and had a wholesome purpose. There was a time when Muslin woven by our weavers was lighter than the air. It was further anointed with the finest quality of Chikankari. The result was a dearer than life creation of beauty..a joy to just behold. Those times are gone. That fabric doesn’t exist. But can we re-create, re-imagine and bring back a sliver of that beauty?! Yes we can. POSHAAK (about the dress): A Walk in the Clouds is a re imagination and re-creation of the famed, classical Muslin Chikankari Angrakha Kurtas, that are now found in handed down private collections or museums. We have done some changes, to make them more functional & wearable for today, as what is Art, if it can’t be worn & celebrated, with aplomb! This classic cut was earlier, exclusively men’s kurta; we have re designed it to be dress for the ladies! The Muslin is extinct now, but we have tried to re-create that beauty in Pure Organza Silk. Since Organza is floaty, unlike Muslin, masterclass rare Murri embroidery (the Biryani Chawal stitch), has been done very skilfully on the panels to give weight to the dress and give it a flattering fall. The Angrakha cut was very difficult to achieve in this fabric, and 1 master tailor alone can make this dress from start to finish. The Angrakha cut, enables the dress to be worn both opened as a throw on, or closed as a dress, thereby increasing its functionality. The dress will come with a Satin Silk Silk Dress inside, to match (unless specified otherwise by the patron). This alone is enough for anyone to wear it as a dress. The sleeves have been kept 3/4^th to keep the look of the dress. Apart from the masterclass murri neckline & kali detailing, the back has a statement motif with all rare & precious stitches! The dress is a beauty to behold! KHAYAL (mood-board): Sonchiraiya or the Common Sparrow bird, that is increasingly becoming uncommon & elusive. The bird that used to titter in every home and bring untold joy of life, whose presence heards the beauty of seasons – summer, winters or monsoon! It is one of the most therapeutic signs to see these birds in nesting season, starting a new life. It is for this reason, that the Sparrow or Sonchiraiya has been eulogised in many poems & works of Art! POSHAAK (about the dress): The Sonchiraiya Eri Silk Kurta is possibly the first Chikankari Kurta on Eri Silk fabric! This Golden Peach beauty has an artful layout. The front of the kurta has a branch coming down from one shoulder, with flowers & leaves on it. The Sonchiraiya are going in and out of the branch, carrying a twig in their beak, symbolising the nesting season. This motif is inspired by the Rajput fresco art. To add to this, Noir, is a series we had created a couple of years back, to celebrate a new dimension in Chikankari embroidery - the tone on tone dark. KHAYAL (mood-board): The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes. POSHAAK (about the dress): The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The lace detailing on the neckline adds charm & romance to the ethereal Kurta. KHAYAL (mood-board): The city of Lucknow, & its popular cultural iconography is defined by two leitmotifs; one of them is the mysterious and glorious architecture of Rumi Darwaza, that finds no parallel from any gateway in the World. The second is the interesting story of the Taj or the Crown of Lucknow, that caused a political turmoil in the Awadh Riyasat, back in the days. We wanted to create a historical piece of wearable art that capture both these iconographies in one neat creation, & the result was the moodboard of Rumi Taj kurta. POSHAAK (about the dress): This almond hued Kurta has the glorious Rumi Darwaza motif (a Meiraas Exclusive) on the back of the kurta. The front has the antique Taj miniature motif scattered on the front & sleeves. The neckline has the stunning & very complex Hathkati & Murri (rice grain) neckline. Noir was first introduced as a concept on Silks (Tussar & Chanderi), and now it is has its equally stunning Pure Linen version with exemplary antique 2 taar embroidery done on antique motifs with masterclass detailing. Swarna Ambi, or the Golden Mango! This Gold Zari Silk Dupatta from Meiraas, is anointed with delicate Resham Chikankari & Mukaish on Tissue Georgette fabric. The dupatta is a festive statement in itself. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ): 1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery. 2. Antique motif art & layout created using hand carved motifs following all processes. 3. Mukaish hand embroidery KHAYAL (mood-board): Swarna is a hue we love! We introduced the fabric of Zari Silk (or Tissue) with Resham Chikankari, back in 2020, with our Dhanlakshmi collection. Since then, this is one of our most revered & loved creations. Our moodboard was inspired by the ancient Indian sculptures that showcased very intricate & deep work on rich fabrics. We wanted to explore this unexplored dimension with Chikankari work, and it turned out ethereal!! POSHAAK (about the dress): The Swarna Ambi dupatta has beautiful Gold Ambi motifs on two sides of the daaman diagonally. The workmanship in the Ambi motif is exquisite with many rare stitches, including qasab taar ki jaali. The rest of the dupatta is embroidered with a very intricate miniature diskette shaped floral motif, which is further highlighted by Mukaish embroidery. The delicate, yet rich dupatta is made on Tissue Georgette fabric allowing a light weight & flattering drape. Please see the full dupatta images by scrolling till the end.
