A rare classic of a Kurta, Syamantak Mani is a white pure linen kurta, with 2 Taar Chikankari done on re-created motifs of late 19th-early 20th century artwork. The kurta is a rarity that the men in maximalist Nawab era used to enjoy.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
Re-Created motifs, commissioned by Meiraas, using late 19th & early 20th Century Chikankari motifs as an example. The references have been drawn from Textiles housed in state & national museums and well researched archival works on the subject.
Exclusive Meiraas motifs carved following all traditional processes. No tracing of artwork.
Use of the Crown Motif which belongs to early 20th Century, and is now with Meiraas unit.
2 Taar Chikankari - the motifs used here are a re-creation of late 19th century artwork, therefore the work could only be done using 2 Taar Chikankari, to embroider on each intricate detail.
Rare stitches used in embroidery like Kaante, Hool, Jaali, Phanda, Rahet, Ghaspatti, Chanapatti vis a vis maximum 2-3 common stitches used in Kurtas.
Sustainable fabric base - Pure Handwoven Linen.
Bespoke stitching.
KHAYAL (moodboard): The legendary Syamantak Gem, mentioned in Vishnu Purana & Bhagwad Purana, is believed to the the famed Kohinoor. Legends say that Syamantak Mani was originally the jewel of the Sun God. It was granted by him to a devotee of his, who belonged to the Yadava clan of Sri Krishna. It was believed that wherever Syamantak was placed with devotion, and not greed, it would heap prosperity on that land. However if passed on or snatched away, it would create the opposite energy, equally potent as its positive energy. Predictably, as is the human greed, the Syamantak was lost, and is believed to be Koh-i-noor.
The Crown motif of this Kurta and its jaw dropping intricate 2 Taar embroidery made us name it Syamantak, alluding to The Crown with this famed jewel.
POSHAAK (about the dress): This is a Pure Linen Kurta in its natural colour. The embroidery motifs used here are all commissioned by Meiraas using images of late 19th century archival Chikankari images, and the Crown Motif is an extremely old one (possibly from early 20th Century).
The back has a stunning re-created motif of Inverted Paan and below it is a motif of inverted, ornate minaret. These works are archived in scholarly works of textile art, we have re-created them in our own way. The embroidery done here is 2 Taar Chikankari.
The sleeves have the minaret, and the whole Kurta body is sprinkled with the Crown motif. The embroidery has been done in Beige & Natural White, in keeping with the work observed in the early 20th Century Textile, to create the closest effect.
The Kurta embroidery is an amalgamation of rare stitches most of which are painstakingly hand cut ones, the prime ones being Kaante (two stitches merged in one embroidery), Jaali, Hool, Ghaspatti, Murri (rice grain). This makes the Kurta a class apart creation that one would love to cherish as part of an Heirloom Collection & pass it on to future generations, who might preserve your legacy as an heirloom, and maybe in a well curated Art & Textile show in the future, can display the taste their ancestor had.
Additional Details: The Kurta is Made on Order only. It is a rarity & will take time to get made, as only a handful of very skilled artisans can even make it. Please feel free to give your custom sizing (please specify body or garment sizing), in case you don't find your perfect fit in our size chart. Raat ki Raani or Night Jasmine is a fragrance that we associate Lucknow deeply with. Used very liberally in our homes, since childhood, it is a fragrance after dusk, that we had grown accustomed to. Come monsoons, the sultry evenings in the homes of this regal city, would be wafting in the strong and sweet scent of this flower shrub.
Amongst many fragrances, which are signature of Awadh culture, Night Jasmine is most certainly an underrated, but a prominent one. The flower motif in this fabric is an imagination of the memories that this flower would evoke with its mellow scent.
Poshaak (About the fabric):
This Chikankari and Mukaish Top/Blouse fabric is an ethereal White on White beauty, with neat floral rows of embroidery on front, sleeves & back. The back has one stunning motif, a representative of Floral Creepers coming together to form a heart, at the back. In the summer of 2022, we travelled to the villages around Lucknow city, which have been inked into legends and ballads due to their vast stretches of Mango Orchards, full of sweet fragrance and even sweeter promises. It was here, that we chanced upon some small, but gorgeous stretches of Sunflower Fields, farmed for the much used Sunflower Oil. The sight was as beautiful as a William Wordsworth poem, and also one that was unexpected in the topography of Awadh. This wanted us to add one more motif to our bouquet of work based on Awadh region.
Surajmukhi is a stunning statement motif in a field of other flowers & trees.

The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):

Hand Picked Ancient Archived Motifs
Extremely Fine quality handwork, that is a rare find
Pure Georgette Silk fabric that increases the longevity of the garment & makes it timeless
Free Size fastening, so that this can be handed down generation to generation, making it Sustainable.
Classic finishing of High quality Lining and Buckram, which makes the garment timeless & ageless.
Khayal (Moodboard): Lehenga has been part of the cultural milieu of our country, since the times of Ayodhya and Sri Ram, and Kathak dance; maybe the dress even predated that era and got a grander version with the first known Kathak performance for the beloved scion of Ayodhya, after his coronation. Since that time, Lehenga, which is essentially a wide flared skirt, has seen many avatars. It is worn in beautiful, bright cottons, with tie and dye craft in many cultures, to this date. Its dressier versions include Handcrafted premium embroidered or woven varieties in jewel tones or plush rich hues, meant to stun the onlookers with its elegance, class and grace. Wedding Lehengas soon started replacing the Wedding Sarees in many places, and today have become a signature look for the Brides in India.
The charm of a Lehenga skirt, Dupatta and Choli is so unbeatable, that it has its versions in almost all crafts of the country, the latest addition being Chikankari and Mukaish.
A Chikankari Lehenga is like an ethereal fantasy come true. Embroidered richly upon Pure Georgette Silk, it looks like a beautiful dream, a garden of senses if you will, lit up with thousands of fireflies (Mukaish), rendering the wearer look nothing short of an angelic vision.
Poshaak (about the dress): This is a 12 Kali (flare) Lehenga skirt only, which has very fine and beautiful work of waves made in shadow stitch and floral shadow stitch embroidery, among other stitches, alternating between each kalis. The lehenga is made in 3 taar embroidery, and is exceptionally neat and fine. Each stitch will come alive as the wearer moves in it. What differentiates an exceptionally fine lehenga from a regular variety is its attention to detail, even in its corners and borders; even the embroidery done on the length of the Kalis, adds to its overall finished look, which is crucial in any sustainable handcrafted garment. Mukaish must add to the charm, and not become a mainstay, overshadowing the Chikankari; both the crafts need to speak a symbiotic language for the whole ensemble to come alive.
This skirt is finished in Free Size and has a traditional waist tie up. It is finished with a good quality Cotton lining for all day comfort, and has been given a high quality buckram in the hemline to give the skirt the required body. This classic finishing makes this fine quality handcrafted piece not only more wearable, but timeless, and worthy of handing down as an Heirloom piece.
Styling Tip: There are so many options one can exercise with a Chikankari Lehenga Skirt. You can team this beauty up with a blouse and dupatta of another craft to create an exceptionally elegant yet unique look; or one of the favourite fusion ways to wear this is with a Satin button down shirt & a gorgeous jadau necklace for a fun cocktail evening.
You can be as imaginative as you want with a Chikankari Lehenga Skirt.
Note: Only the Skirt is available to shop from this post.

KHAYAAL (moodboard):
The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours & palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi.
Krishna Lakshmi, signifies the dark night of Amavasya (Krishna Paksha), when the radiance of Sri Lakshmi, visits deserving households, to bring them prosperity and wholesome progress.
KrishnaLakshami is a stunning Black Gold Zari Silk Chikankari saree, with Black Resham embroidery, a piece de resistance, and one that creates new Heirlooms and Textile Traditions.
POSHAAK (about the saree):
The stunning KrishnaLakshami, is embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work.
The palla has a jaw dropping Rhombus motif with most delicate and intricate workmanship ever seen. It is one of a kind motif with 3 D quality artwork done by our unit artisans. Absolutely fine Zari Taar Jaali decorates this motif, which required an exceptionally high skill to make. The Zari Silk saree is embroidered in semi darkness, as it reflects back light; when this is a Black Gold hue, it becomes even more challenging, and here if we add Zari Taar for Jaali stitch, you can gauge the level of craftsmanship and artwork we are talking about. Absolutely precise trellis of Jaali cut with perfect guesstimate; this is the magic Indian artisans have in their hands.
Words will fall short in the praise of this exquisite beauty of a saree!! The body has absolutely fine small flowers made with tiniest Ghaspatti stitch. The bel running on Palla & Border is an exquisite example of fine miniature workmanship of the past. Some of these motifs are centuries old, and some freshly carved looking at centuries old motifs. A rare piece of Art.
The unique Black Gold colour of the saree with Black embroidery makes it stunning, regal & timeless heirloom that you would like to pass on generation after generation.
Saree is further finished with Pure Handwoven Mulberry Silk selvedge in Black, and a 1 metre running Chikankari embroidered blouse piece in Black Gold is also part of the saree.
P.S: If you are noticing dark patches anywhere in the pictures, then that is the Zari reflecting the light back to the camera, and this is not present on the saree.
Avoid moisture seeping into such sarees. Always store them in a dry place and in the Meiraas bag we deliver them in. Keep opening Silk Sarees in every 6 months & changing its folds.
