Artisan Skill Enhancement: The artisan unit that has embroidered this Chikankri Saree had never worked on a saree before or done skilled stitch work. They had never even worked on any pure fabric & only did "shadow" "phanda" stitches for fast moving Chikan goods. Such nuanced work enhanced their skill and gives them better chance of earning more.
Slow Layout of Embroidery: The embroidery layout is in typical style of an Heirloom saree with more designs and even Shadow work. This breaks away from the allover simple Tepchi embroidery that is the norm of fast moving Chikan work.

Khayal (moodboard): Rajnigandha collection is inspired by Everyday Effortless charm of saree draping from 1970s-80s, when the ladies of our homes used to drape sarees for everyday chores, & not just for occasions. There was a certain careless abandon in this style, that made the drapes very relatable and one with the wearer, which is an emotion missing now from saree draping. Since the collection finds its muse in 1970s middle cinema heroines, like Vidya Sinha, the names are kept reminiscent of the romance of those ages!! Badra (Monsoon Clouds) is a slice of life name, that is evocative of the simple yet soulful era!!
Poshaak (about the saree):
Beautiful & rare Peacock Motif along with a stunning floral shadow motif and Lotus creepers come together to celebrate this beautiful Chikankari saree. To create this one of a kind Tepchi with Shadow embroidery layout, we re-imagined this saree in the style of design layout that is usually reserved for pure georgette Chikankari sarees; only, we gave this a twist suited best for good quality Tepchi embroidery. Instead of an allover same embroidery pattern, that is normal with Tepchi, we broke the palla layout into interesting panels to include more nuanced motifs & even included a Shadow stitch motif. This makes the layout of the saree unique, and allows the artisans to enhance their skill in Tepchi embroidery. Please remember, that only constant practise and challenges makes crafts perfect.
We absolutely love Tepchi Chikankari. The delicate Tepchi is quite literally Summer embroidered on your saree.
However, off late the Tepchi we have started getting in markets is a travesty. You will be lucky to find a really good quality Tepchi for office or casual wear. We have worked very hard on this saree to create a fantastic Tepchi & some shadow work masterpiece, along with Handwoven fabric!! This is a true collector's delight.
The unconventional Indigo hue is stunning, all season fresh & outstanding , making it a perfect & must have Chikankari wear.
Creating a Chikankari saree on Handspun Handwoven Cotton weave was always our dream. We have been successful in finding the perfect sustainable drape for our delicately embroidered sarees.
This is a new design introduced this year. It is a perfect light office/lunch/brunch/casual wear saree, yet one that will make heads turn. The drape is perfect for any weather.
IMP: Please Note, this is a Khadi Cotton saree, which is dyed after the embroidery. There will be non uniformity in colour gradation. This is the charm of Khadi and its differentiating factor.
Styling Tip: Wear with Rajnigandha Crop Top
Artisan Skill Enhancement: Very fine quality motif work, that involves more skilled work quality done with lesser filaments. The design layout also facilitates more skilled workmanship.
Khayal (moodboard):"Rajnigandha Collection was born out of my love of 70s effortless and relatable genre of Hindi Cinema, and the look of the heroines of such films, who felt closer to the women in my family & around me – my mother, my aunts, my teachers – all of whom were heroines in their own life, and were changing the societal mindset, to accept women who knew their mind, could go out & work, or homemakers who needed personal time, have a life and defined choices, while taking their family along in this journey. It was an interesting time!!
Rajnigandha was especially chosen for Chikankari sarees, because they were heavily worn by women of all age groups in Lucknow, light worked ones and heavier Tepchi ones in pretty sorbet & pastel shades.

FROM THE VAULT COLLECTIVE
Mihikavan is Heirloom Chikankari 2 Taar Pure Georgette Saree in Almond Beige hue with full jaal floral embroidery. The Palla has breathtaking latticework stitch in rare & old Paisley motif. A rare Heirloom Piece!!
KHAYAL (moodboard):
Kamadeva (God of Desire) and Basant (Spring) decide to break the tapa of Kaamajeyi Mahadev, and get him attracted to the beauty of Parvati ji. To set this scene of romance, they paint a rugged forest, where the tapa is going on, into a place of beautiful desire, an enchanted forest garden. In an instant, Basant transforms the rugged terrain into a Floral Paradise; his painting is so beautiful that all beings are turned on to create a valley of love, the culmination of this beauty happens when a dormant tree trunk starts sprouting flowers, & a Latika or Creeper of Flowers engulfs the trunk with her grip of love!! Kalidasa ji paints so beautifully with words, almost as beautifully as our artisans create art with needle and thread. Mihikavan means Mihika (dewdrops) of Vana (Forest garden). When I see the art on this saree, I think of the first rays of sun touching the Mihika and the whole enchanted forest garden of Kumaarsambhav penned by Kalidasa ji come alive. We hope you enjoy this Khayal - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas

The Power of the Next Move!!
Taking inspiration from celebrated Indian author, Munshi Premchand's story, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, we created Bisaat. Celebrated Indian Filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, also made a classic adaptation of this story in 1977. Bisaat or the chessboard was the biggest conversation starter in Awadh; this past legacy has been recreated on this showstopper kurta.
Painstaking research work was done to recreate these motif that you can read here Falaknuma
POSHAAK (about the dress): Red & Black motifs of Chess stand boldly against the butter white backdrop of the Kurta - Power of Silence. The back has one statement motif of Black & Red Chessboard fitted inside a Paisley Shape to draw the Awadhi connect to the design board. The kurta is a statement conversation piece & best worn with Bisaat Dupatta or standalone.
Important: The kurta will come with a detachable slip complimentary from Meiraas, along with stitching & finishing also complimentary.
Meiraas Bestseller Chikankari design since its first launch in 2018, the Power of Silence, Dance of the Cranes motif has been one of our most requested motifs. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. Exclusive Dance of the Cranes Meiraas motifs carved following all processes.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The lace detailing on the neckline adds charm & romance to the ethereal Kurta. The White of the Kurta with its butter Pure Chanderi base is perfect to create the right drama, and yet have a classic appeal.
