Aari hand embroidery outlining the motifs in Gold Qasab Taar.
Zardozi Hand Embroidery detailing of micro sequins, cutdana, pearls.
Hand Picked Ancient Archived Motifs.
Conceptual and Exclusive Chikankari, Aari & Zardozi hand embroidery - 3 embroideries of Awadh in one saree.
Handloom Mulberry Silk fabric.
Museum quality Chikankari sarees that can be handed down generation to generation as a treasure.
KHAYAAL (Mood-board):
The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours and palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi.
Swarna Mayur or the Golden Peacock saree is an ode to the regal splendour of our heritage, where peacocks are a ubiquitous motif of divinity & beauty. Pecocks perched & Peacock pair are few of the many motifs of Art that surround this royal iconography.
Swarna Mayur has been crafted with this thought in mind. It is a piece de resistance, and one that creates new Heirlooms and Textile Traditions.
POSHAAK (About the garment):
Three Heritage hand embroideries of Awadh - Resham Chikankari, Qasab Taar Aari and Zardozi, come together on this poetry of a saree, Swarna Mayur.
The handspun, handwoven Mulberry Silk saree, is embroidered with two unique Peacock motifs, i.e., Chaand Mayur (the perched Peacock) and Mayur Joda (the miniature Peacock pair). The saree has konia of perched peacock on the palla, while rest of the palla and body has peacock pair embroidered till 2.5 metres of the saree.
The peacock pair also runs across one side of the border (pleats), interspersed with floral motifs of Chikankari, all through.
Resham chikankari with soft almond & mocha brown shade is done on the creamy natural mulberry silk base.
Each peacock motif is highlighted with Qasab Taar Aari embroidery detailing, done very painstakingly. Thereafter, the saree is scattered with high quality micro sequins all over. Cutdana and Pearls add their lustre to this masterpiece of a saree!
The blouse fabric is running with floral Chikankari embroidery, along with sequins detailing.
This is the saree that captures the essence for those who wish to create their own Heirlooms to wear and hand down as their legacy!
Words will fall short in the praise of this exquisite beauty of a saree!! Some of these motifs are centuries old, and some freshly carved looking at centuries old motifs. A rare piece of Art.
P.S.: Avoid moisture seeping into such sarees. Always store them in a dry place and in the Meiraas bag we deliver them in. Keep opening Silk Sarees in every 6 months and changing its folds.
This saree is Ready To Ship.
Raktambari or the One with Blood Skyline, is a stunning Resham Chikankari saree on Handloom Linen!
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
Resham Chikankari - the most skilled and rare Chikankari art form
Handloom Linen fabric
Hand Picked Ancient Archived Motifs
KHAYAAL (moodboard):
Yakshi is a celestial nymph mentioned in Ancient Puranic texts and epics like Ramayan and Mahabharat. The khayal to name this collection, Yakshi came with the Temple Art of India, like Khajuraho group of temples; the celestial nymphs are set in stone in the most beautiful expressions in these temples. They have been made with such devotion and aesthetics that one can imagine them coming to life at night, and reliving the days of past glory!!
Linen as a fabric was extensively worn in almost all Ancient Civilisations. In fact some sources suggest the possibility of white on white embroidery being worn in Chandragupta Maurya's court, on thinnest of muslins.
This is why, when we conceptualised Chikankari on Linen, we dedicated the moodboard to Yakshi of that age.
Raktambari, a Sanskrit name, which is derived from, Rakt (Blood) Ambar (Sky), is a name given to this stunning and bold Red Chikankari saree with Red Resham Embroidery; something we can imagine a Yakshi draped in.
POSHAAK (about the saree):
This blood red coloured handwoven Linen saree, has a beautiful floral border running all through the saree, with many dainty stitches crafted to perfection.
The palla has a cluster of floral bouquet, that has been embroidered with stitches of surface (shadow) and raised surface (ghaspatti) embroidery, amongst other stitches of Chikankari. Rest of the saree has scattered floral motifs to enhance its bold and statement making look.
The saree also comes with a running embroidered blouse piece.
Styling Tip: Like most Meiraas creations, this saree can be dressed up & down for multiple occasions, whether work wear or party wear. Dress it up with diamonds or polkis for an evening out, Gold for that traditional yet diversified look, and statement silver jewels for that special day at work.
Please Note: Slight wrinkles are part of Pure Linen texture. Linen is the most low maintenance fabric. Ideally before draping this saree, take it out and spread it and hang somewhere at least a day before; its wrinkles will smoothen significantly. Mostly it should be worn with slight wrinkles, yet if you wish to iron the dhobi press will be fine, with a cloth on top.
This saree is Made on Order only!
Nakshatra Black Pure Organza Kaamdaani saree of Meiraas Exclusive work , The Golden Trellis with Circle Diskette & Chaand motif!! A stunning saree that celebrates forces of the Universe.
THE SUSTAINABILITY QUOTIENT (TSQ):
- Revival of Trellis work in Kamdaani Embroidery : A rarity, Golden Trellis, has been elusive in the repertoire of Kamdaani embroidery for over many centuries. This work of Satkhaani jaali is now done by handful of artisans only for very select collectors of heritage crafts.
- Pure Organza Silk
KHAYAAL (moodboard):"Summers in 1980s Lucknow meant, the whole family sleeping on the terrace at night. While one reason could be that power cuts were frequent then, another reason was its charm of sleeping under the open sky. Nani's house was a treat for me in this respect, whenever we stayed there. We would sleep under the stars, all cousins and elders around on their own charpais. Papa would take this as a moment to show me stars, planets, moon, the Milky Way, etc etc. It was fascinating & I deeply miss those innocent times. Nakshatra is a product of that reverie. Designing Nakshatra was always a dream, ever since I started working with Mukaish craft. The stars of Mukaish say so much to me than just metallic embellishments. They remind me of shooting stars, sun shining on dewdrops, planets, forces that are beyond our comprehension, and we can only see them as glittering dots, because we are limited in our scope to understand energies. This was the thought with which I explored Nakshatra. The Golden Trellis was the perfect embroidery to try this design intervention. I conceptualised a Celestial Trinity of the Sun, the Moon and the Planet to denote the Nakshatra and set it on a bed of stars in the sky in the form of this beautiful Organza Saree.I wish the patron wears it in an enchanting dinner place, under open clear sky, with millions of stars, a glass of wine and good company at hand and have a soulful time to remember & cherish forever." - Vidhi, Head of Creative, Meiraas
POSHAAK (about the saree):
This dark black sky of a soft cloudy Organza Saree has the Constellation in the form of - the Sun, the Moon & the Planet in Golden Trellish Kaamdaani embroidery. These motifs are heavily on the palla only, and the rest of the body has stars of Mukaish scattered all over its vast dark expanse.
We have finished it with Mulberry Silk selvedge in same colour.
The saree has a Mulberry Silk Blouse Piece in running with stars of Muakish.
Storage: Please store safely in the cloth bag we provide. Air it after every few months.

Artisan Skill Enhancement: The dresses are embroidered by our Rajnigandha unit, who were used to working on what is termed as "chaalu kaam" or fast moving Chikankari goods. They had never worked on such a skilled piece that helped them invest more creative hours & therefore earn better piece with creative satisfaction
Paan Motif: Usage of the much less used Paan Motif in regular work also, so that this motif can be revived.
Handloom Chanderi fabric: Making this dress a Handwoven & Handcrafted delight
KHAYAL (Moodboard): "When I was going to design Kalidar Dresses for my portfolio, I started with seeing what was available in Chikankari Kalidar Dresses in general. I was quite disappointed then seeing the spangly and strictly One Time Wear Kalidars that lacked classic appeal and clearly could be worn in very loud gatherings. It is definitely not the style of Meiraas.
Here I would also like to divulge, that at the risk of losing business, I have put my foot down on making “gowns” (whatever that means) and One Time Wears as much as I could.
For my Kalidar Dresses, I revisited some films from 1960s, where Kalidar Frocks, both Knee Length and Calf Length were worn by vintage actresses. The ease, the charm, the subtlety and the flow - I wanted that. I will especially recall Sadhana’s short one in Mere Mehboob, and Padmini’s beautiful orange one in Mera Naam Joker, in a Qawali song. Smart, easy to dress up and down, laidback and classic.
Something you can wear anywhere, anytime.
Here’s presenting a series on one of my favourite themes - Dolce Far Niente aka The Sweetness of Doing Nothing”

The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. 2 Taar Resham Hand Embroidery on
2. The Awadh Blossom motif re-created from an archived motif shown in Paola Manfredi's "Chikankari: A Lucknowi Tradition"
2. Motifs hand carved following all processes.
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
This beautiful flower, with opening and carelessly cascading petals, appears on almost every monument in the erstwhile Awadh region, right uptil Ayodhya. Is it Lotus (less likely), is it Semal flower (but why?), it certainly isn't rose. There has been no culture of Tulips in the country, so which flower is it, that appears on every monument of note, throughout Awadh. This motif is accompanied with Matsya motif, and can be seen in all old temples & buildings of Ayodhya, the most ancient seat of Awadh. It has to have a deep cultural significance. So for now, let us name it - The Awadh Blossom.
If one goes to the National Museum, Delhi, one can also see a gorgeous Jade knife hoslter with the same Awadh Blossom carved on it. This flower was certainly significant.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This 2 Taar Resham Chikankari Kurta Dupatta ensemble is a rarity in minimalist moodboard. Usually when it comes to 2 Taar Resham Chikankari, it is so rare, that one gets full ensemble embroidered in it. Minimalist moodboard allows patrons to enjoy this rare & precious embroidery, with a historic motif, in a more functional format.
The front of the Kurta and sleeves has an open tulip floral motif with Qasab Taar ki Jaali, the back has the re-created statement motif of The Awadh Blossom, in all its grandeur, with very intricate workmanship.
The dupatta that accompanies the Kurta has the open tulip motif too, with Qasab taar Jaali detailing.
We chose the three colour pastel embroidery on ivory base, for the 2 Taar work to stand out in a minimalist moodboard.
The Pure Georgette Silk base makes this a perfect wear for many occasions, both formal & semi formal. Some pearls or solitaires are all one needs to dress up such an ensemble.
