Khayal (moodboard): "Rajnigandha Collection was born out of my love of 70s effortless and relatable genre of Hindi Cinema, and the look of the heroines of such films, who felt closer to the women in my family & around me – my mother, my aunts, my teachers – all of whom were heroines in their own life, and were changing the societal mindset, to accept women who knew their mind, could go out & work, or homemakers who needed personal time, have a life and defined choices, while taking their family along in this journey. It was an interesting time!! Rajnigandha was especially chosen for Chikankari sarees, because they were heavily worn by women of all age groups in Lucknow, light worked ones and heavier Tepchi ones in pretty sorbet & pastel shades. The collection is also my heart collective, as it involves Artisan Skill Enhancement at each level, along with using good quality handwoven cotton fabric, all of which are fast disappearing from Chikankari everyday sarees." - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas Poshaak (about the saree): Wine is a beautiful deep plum hued Chikankari saree, that needs very little to dress it up or down for various occasions. It is embroidered with intricate Paan motif, an endearing iconography of Lucknow, that is reminiscent of the favourite mouth freshener Luckhnavis are addicted to. This dense and beautiful motif has been embroidered to make a stunning Palla and one side heavier border that will come on the pleats, with shadow and phanda stitches. The other side of the border is sleeker, thereby giving an illusion of balance and a flattering form, when the saree is draped. Little scattered floral bootis carry through the saree. Artisan Skill Enhancement: The artisan unit that has embroidered this Chikankri Saree had never worked on a saree before or done skilled stitch work. They had never even worked on any pure fabric and had only done "shadow" "phanda" stitches for fast moving Chikankari goods. Such nuanced work enhanced their skill and gives them a better chance of earning more.
Slow Layout of Embroidery: The embroidery layout is in typical style of an Heirloom saree with varied designs and Shadow work, along with it, which is rarely seen. This breaks away from the 'allover' simple Tepchi embroidery that is the norm of fast moving Chikankari work, and is done by 5-6 chutkis (embroidery girls). In contrast, this saree is made by 2 skilled artisans only.

Khayal (moodboard): The Rajnigandha collection is inspired by Everyday Effortless charm of saree draping from 1970s-80s, when the ladies of our homes used to drape sarees for everyday chores, and not just for occasions. There was a certain careless abandon in this style, that made the drapes very relatable and one with the wearer, which is an emotion missing now from saree draping. Since the collection finds its muse in 1970s slice of life cinema heroines, like Vidya Sinha, the names are kept reminiscent of the romance of those ages!! Geeli Mehendi (Wet Palms with Henna) is a name, that is evocative of the simple yet soulful era!! Poshaak (about the saree): To create this one of a kind Tepchi with Shadow embroidery layout, we re-imagined this saree in the style of design layout that is usually reserved for pure georgette Chikankari sarees; only, we gave this a twist suited best for good quality Tepchi embroidery. Instead of an 'allover' same embroidery pattern, that is usual with Tepchi, we broke the palla layout into interesting panels to include more nuanced motifs and even included a Shadow stitch motif. This makes the layout of the saree unique, and allows the artisans to enhance their skill in Tepchi embroidery. As is well know, that only constant practise and challenges makes the craft perfect. We absolutely love Tepchi Chikankari. The delicate Tepchi is quite literally Summer embroidered on your saree. The Dark Green Brown Mehendi hue is a mood lifter and outstanding , making it a perfect and must have as a connoisseur. Creating a Chikankari saree on Handspun Handwoven Cotton weave was always our dream. We have been successful in finding the perfect sustainable drape for our delicately embroidered sarees. KHAYAAL (Mood-board): Gold on Gold tone Chikankari was a dream drape, that we could only imagine a Goddess draping on herself. Our moodboard was a wrap that is rich like molten gold, embroidered like it is carved using finest craftsmanship on gold, malleable like it is a rich gold lava flowing... This is what shaped the Shahi Paan Gold Wrap/Shawl. We wanted a drape so exceedingly rich & lustrous, and yet so incredibly detailed with antique quality Chikankari, that it makes hearts stop. POSHAAK (About the garmemt): The stunning Shahi Paan silk shawl, is embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work. The either side of the shawl width has the grand Shahi Paan motif, that we re created basis an archival image of a 18th Century Chikankari motif. The body is made of an intricate trellis jaal, where hand cut work stitches like hathkati have been used extensively, to bring out the beauty of this drape. The shawl features some rarest stitches done in 2 Taar Resham Chikankari - hathkati, shadow, murri, phanda, orma, pechni, and many more. It is a visual treat for any connoisseur of fine Chikankari craft. It is extremely difficult to work on full Zari Silk Chikankari pieces, because of many reasons:

The fabric reflects light back, making it impossible to work in full light, hence it needs perfect light setting in a room and extremely skilled artisans to make it.
Such fabric requires enormous dexterity and a very fine level of craftsmanship, therefore the number of artisans working on it are just 1-2 only. This means it takes more time than other sarees

Words will fall short in the praise of this exquisite beauty of a drape!! Some of these motifs are centuries old, and some freshly carved looking at centuries old motifs. A rare piece of Art. This shawl is a timeless heirloom that you would like to pass on generation after generation. This Shawl will pair fabulously with Swarna Kurta If you purchase it along with Swarna Kurta, then a pair of glazed cotton pants to match will also be complimentary. P.S: If you are noticing dark patches anywhere in the pictures, then that is the Zari reflecting the light back to the camera, and this is not present on the shawl. Avoid moisture seeping into such pieces. Always store them in a dry place and in the Meiraas bag we deliver them in. Keep opening Silk Fabrics in every 6 months and changing its folds.

Ambi - a very rare & old motif of overlapping ambis of different sizes, that seems to be inspired from Tanchoi weave of Banaras. It is a unique motif layout that was never seen in Chikankari, despite Ambi or Paisley being a very prominent Chikankari motif. This forms the palla, which will look glorious when taken over the shoulder.

The rest of the gorgeous Coral Pink saree is hand embroidered with Gold stars of Mukaish, making this the perfect throwback saree of Vintage Chikankari.

Khayal (Moodboard): "Chandani ke boote aur Dhoop ki Kaliyan" - The flowers carved by Moonlight, & the Buds that bloom under mellow sunshine. This is a title in Lucknow's cultural historian, Padma Shri Late Dr Yogesh Praveen ji's book, Aapka Lucknow. The chapter is dedicated particularly to Crafts of Awadh - Zardozi, Mukaish & Chikankari, of which "Dhoop ki Kaliyan" is especially kept for the latter craft. Chikankari is in fact one of those rarest of rare embroideries, that looks as though crafted out of mellow Sunshine. This saree and its very fine embroidery looks every inch as the delicate flower buds that are ready to bloom in soft glow of the Sun. The saree features 2 taar taagha embroidery in Chikankari, with all 4 hand cutwork stitches (a painstaking rarity), in one saree alone. The neckline has a rare work of Kauri stitch embroidery with qasab taar Jaali stitch cut inside Kauri. This work is rarely seen. The sleeves has a ghaspatti embroidery detailing. The back has a statement antique motif of Awadh Matsya or Fish under the Nawab Crown, making this the minimalist elegant kurta not only perfect to wear at any occasion, whether semi formal or formal, but also a conversation starter.
