This is a title in Lucknow’s cultural historian, Padma Shri Late Dr Yogesh Praveen ji’s book, Aapka Lucknow. The chapter is dedicated particularly to Crafts of Awadh – Zardozi, Mukaish & Chikankari, of which “Dhoop ki Kaliyan” is especially kept for the latter craft.

Chikankari is in fact one of those rarest of rare embroideries, that looks as though crafted out of mellow Sunshine. This saree and its very fine embroidery looks every inch as the delicate flower buds that are ready to bloom in soft glow of the Sun.

The full saree features many rare stitches like – Jaali, Hool, Hathkati, Bijli, Shadow, triple Kangan, Orma, Penchni, Murri, Phanda and many others.
