An Oxblood shade Chikankari Kurta in our Noir series of exploring rich, dark shades. The Kurta is a classic in our Noir moodboard! It also amalgamates our Amer motif.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. Exclusive Amer Motif hand carved following all processes.
2. Antiquemotif art & layout created using hand carved motifs following all processes.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Amer motif was created by us in the year 2020. The motif is a replica of Amer Fort, Jaipur Guldaan art done in Molten Glass in the original monument. This motif inspired us to create a range of Amer inspired Chikankari garments, as artfully, Amer Fort is one of the most beautiful forts we have seen so far.
To add to this, Noir, is a series we had created a couple of years back, to celebrate a new dimension in Chikankari embroidery - the tone on tone dark. We started this process with Black, & since then have tried Moss Green, and now moving to explore Oxblood shade. This kind of Chikankari is the opposite of classic & ethereal White on White or pastel Tone on Tone. This is rich, decadent, sultry, elegant, mysterious & yet, stately.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This rich Oxblood shade kurta has a beautiful ghaspatti bel neckline. It features an antique late 19th Century miniature flower vase motif, which also finds its parallel in Amer fort. This is why we picked this motif to go along with the grand Amer motif newly crafted by us.
This motif is scattered on the sleeves and front of the Kurta, and the back has the grand Amer Vase motif, along with keel bootis.
It is a beautiful, artful Kurta that is sure to turn heads and become a conversation starter.

KHAYAL (mood-board):
The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The pastel olive green Kurta has embroidery in lovely golden colour with resham thread, making it a unique pastel on pastel play Kurta.

The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. The Kurta cut inspired by a phiran, housed in the National Museum, Delhi.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Was the jewellery inspired by crafts & motifs, or were the classic motifs inspired by the jewellery?
The answers can be varied, but the result is guarenteed to be breathtaking, either ways.
Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers bloom in the month when spring ends. Their lovely yellow peach hue when boiled in water & the mellow, invigorating fragrance invoked feelings of Shringaar since ancient days.
These two thoughts formed the design moodboard of this Kurta.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
This phiran style Chanderi kurta was inspired by the cut of some dresses from 19th Century, that are housed in National Museum. We wanted to design something unique with such a cut, hence a jewellery inspired theme was adopted, where we found motifs that aligned with our moodboard.
We also married the thought of Flame of the Forest or Tesu flowers and how their vibrant canopy looks all over the Northern part of India, at the start of summers. Therefore, we curated motifs & stitches that will give the effect of a mellow flame, as Tesu, when boiled in water gives a pleasing yellow-peach hue & a mellow fragrance.
The Kurta has a heavy necklace design, which we pieced together to design like a 'haar' or a necklace of flowers. Qasab taar jaali was cut in each motif, along with Murri stitch, that gave the impression of flame.
The statement motif at the back also has an antique motif that was decorated with upward facing murri stitch on the outer rim, to give the effect of mellow flame.
The sleeves & body have floral motifs to represent the cusp of spring and summer.
The Resham Chikankari done is very intricate & painstaking, which will take a true connoisseur to see & understand. The phiran is an even more elegant and dressy turn on the classic Chikankari kurta. It will be accompanied with a detachable slip.

KHAYAL (Mood-board):
La Vie En Rose, or see the World with rose tints, is a popular, cultural expression, that translates to a feeling of positivity & uplifting the mood by seeing the beauty in the World. The expression has birthed countless songs & cinematic representations. The thought behind creating a Rose Garden saree came from here, & in keeping with the Parisian Culture of this expression, we created the saree embroidery in shades of blush, peach, soft pinks.
POSHAAK (About the garment):
Summer evenings or Winter day soirees, La Vie En Rose, is a perfect saree for bringing forth an elegant & regal charm of vintage era. Meiraas Exclusive Chikankari design, Kites & Rooster, was launched in 2018 for the first time. The motif Kites & Roosters alludes of old Lucknvai culture that alluded to 'Patangbaazi' (Kite Flying), & Rooster Fight. This conceptual kurta carries a small history of Lucknow's old culture, through these motifs.
The kurta shade is soft bluish grey.
The Sustainability Quotient (SQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery
2. Exclusive Meiraas motifs hand carved following all processes.
3. Handwoven Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
5. Hand dyed using Azo Free pigments
6. Ample margins provided to suit alteration & make the ready to wear last longer.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
The skyline of Lucknow is incomplete without the gliding silence of Kites. Watching them is a therapeutic & out of body experience. During our childhood, taking cups of tea in the evening & sitting on the rooftop & watching the gliding Kites was a popular Luckhnavi leisue activity, as was flying it. Times changed & everything became fast paced, pushing these slow activities to the back-burner. They were seen as something ancient & not quite fitting in. Still, when we meet our Lucknow friends or family, the gliding & elegant Kites make way back into the conversation with the oft repeated "Don't know where that time flew by" - Power of Silence. This motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018.
POSHAAK (about the dress): Patangbaazi or the Kite Flying Ritual as it was called is shown on the Kurta with the back & sleeves showing the Rooster Motif in pastel Blue colour in Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi.
Important: The kurta will come with a detachable slip complimentary from Meiraas, along with stitching & finishing also complimentary.

The motifs here represent the beauty of the "graam" or village of Awadh, just on the outskirts of the historic city of Lucknow.
The "mrig" (deer) following the Kastoori (fragrance) of "Mrignayani" (lady) is a poetry etched in Chikankari. This block was made by the son of our block print master. We were so encouraged to see the young generation's interest in creating such artful motifs that we adopted this motif as part of Meiraas collection.
POSHAAK (about the dress): The Mrig and Mrignayani are embroidered in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The Soft Green shade adds a regal touch to the Kurta.

Old school bespoke tailoring that ensures perfect coverage & fall
Functional styling to enable maximum wear of the dress
Pure Handloom Linen fabric
In seam margins to ensure more wearability of the garment
Khayal (moodboard):
When creating this dress, we wanted to delve into the very functional old school tailoring, that is rare to find now. This is a fine Jacket style front open Kurta dress. The style is borrowed from Achkan worn by Nawab Aristocracy in the old days. The design is made more contemporary & has been reimagined for women. The embroidery has minimalist and antique sensibility, with focus given to fine quality craftsmanship. Mother of Pearl buttons add a regal grace to this dress.
Poshaak (about the garment):
The old school tailored Linen Dress, has front open styling with slit and button detailing. The Resham Chikankari has been done in a V shape on the front with two colour threads - White & Firozi. The back has an antique Paan motif that can be found in research books of Chikankari craft. It is a truly a travel back in fashion times, but with a contemporary, dressy twist.
The stitching of this Linen Dress was perfected after numerous trials. It has been heavily researched & antique masterclass stitching expertise has been revived for it, so that it fits all body types, and gives a graceful form & structure.
The button patti has a broad strip of fabric on the inside of the kurta to provide full coverage & comfort in any posture.
Wear it like a dress to an Art Gallery opening, or slip on a pair of pants for an evening of theatre! This is one dress that never fails in exuding regal grace and charm.

Sustaining highest quality of Jaali stitch as centrepiece, which is almost vanishing from the craft or getting replaced with sequins and cutdana.
Handwoven Pure Organza Silk with tested Zari borders of Gold & Silver, making it a Hand embroidered and Hand Woven wholesome piece of wearable art.
KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This bright yellow dupatta has 2 antique Chikankari motifs - Paan and Chaand. Both motifs have very intricate detailing inside them. The bootas are placed on diagonal ends of the dupatta, & the body is filled with 3 miniature motif cluster all through. The dupatta, with its Zari Gold & Silver border, is a piece of stunning wearable art, that one can pass from generation to generation.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful.
The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti.
It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic black coloured gowns or jumpsuits as well.
Important: You can email us at namaste@meiraas.com if you wish to plan a Kurta or Ensemble with this dupatta.

Handloom Chanderi fabric
KHAYAL (moodboard):Elizabeth Bennett is the central protagonist of Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. She is one of the five lovely Bennett sisters, & is now considered amongst the greatest heroines of English Classic Literature. Elizabeth is "second only to Jane in beauty & countenance", yet her most endearing aspect is her cynicism tempered with her sweet nature. With all the traits that Jane has & keeps each separate from the other, Elizabeth's character is a beautifully aligned composition of each one of them in a neat & witty package. This is why this buttery Chanderi Dupatta has three diverse colours of Pink, Yellow & Blue in one Motif, that symbolises Elizabeth the best, & as an evolved version of Jane.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta is a grander version of Elizabeth Dupatta made by us sometime ago. The butter white Chanderi drape has a fusion of 3 unique miniature motifs, the Bijli boota in big & small size, and a miniature leaf petal boota. 3 soft pastel shades - Sky Blue, Lemon Yellow and Rose Pink, create each motif, even the most miniature one. The dupatta is closed on 4 sides with a shadow & ghasspatti bel in two colours.
The Bijli motif has 3 unique hand cutworks in one motif - Bijli, Jaali & Hathkati!! It is simply astounding how much detailing one motif can hold.
It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic white gowns or jumpsuits as well.
Important: You can email us at namaste@meiraas.com if you wish to plan a Kurta or Ensemble with this dupatta.
