Meiraas Resham Chikankari featuring the re created archival Shahi Paan motif. The natural hue Tussar Silk Kurta has some of the finest Resham Chikankari embroidery & is an outstanding piece of art. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  1. Old, classic motifs: The Kurta uses old classic motifs of Chikankari, away from the commercial market mores. The Shahi Paan motif was hand carved for Meiraas exclusively using an archival Chikankari work as reference.
  2. Rarest stitches: The kurta features some of the rarest stitches like Qasab taar Jaali, Bijli which are hand cutwork stitches, Orma, Ghaspatti, Phanda, amongst many others to bring the antique art alive.
  3. Sustainable fabric base - Tussar Silk
  4. Bespoke stitching.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Paan is a very endearing moodboard of Lucknow, let alone the rest of Bharat. Paan holds not just aesthetic value for us, but it is also considered auspicious due to its various health benefits. The betel leaf is enjoyed amongst all sections of society, and has especially been patronised by the Royals of Lucknow. Shahi Paan, which was akin to Art rolled inside the auspicious Betel Leaf, had the paan makers of that time apply the best of their culinary expertise to create a gilauri that was worthy of the Deity of the temple, which later travelled to Royal courts. This gilauri was especially wrapped with hand beaten pure silver foil called Warq. Our Shahi Paan motif & the kalgi adorning atop it, is an homage to those Royal Beedas of the ancient past that are still in existence. POSHAAK (about the dress): Shahi Paan natural Tussar Silk kurta has a stunning statement back of Paan and Kalgi motif, all archival motifs, that can be seen displayed in National Crafts Museum, New Delhi. Although our motif is much bigger, as that is how hand carving happens now. Laced with very intricate detailing, the stunning motif on the back, is balanced by a beautifully minimal neckline & sleeve line. Jasmine flowers motifs adorn the front of the kurta, making it a regal & subtle piece that is perfect for Festivities & Weddings. The kurta is paired with Glazed Cotton pants in the same shade. It adds depth & character to classic Chikankari, & makes it a novelty, without taking away from the core essence of the craft. Additional Details: The Kurta is Made on Order only. KHAYAAL (Mood-board): The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours and palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. After successfully venturing into Gold, Silver hues, and Pearl, Firoza, Precious stones like Tourmaline, Agate hues, we wanted to include Gemstone shades. Our lands are blessed with a variety of natural minerals and gemstones that have immense energy stored within them. Formed under the envelope of Bhoodevi's (Earth) womb, they radiate and reflect back her energy and lend them to the wearer. Our Chanderi sarees, adorned with heirloom quality Chikankari, are named after these soft and deeply spiritual stones. Chandramani or Moonstone is a beautiful grey silver hued sometimes clear, sometimes cloudy to opaque looking gemstone. This beautiful Grey rich Chikankari Tussar Silk saree with antique quality embroidery in white Resham, is the perfect connect to that emotion with us, that resonates with carrying forward a revered Textile Tradition. POSHAAK (About the garment): Chandramani, as the name suggests is a soothing Grey Chikankari Tussar Silk saree, that glows radiant like the soft & soothing glow of the Moon. We decided to use White Resham embroidery on this saree, to symbolise Bela and Motiya blossoms under the soft Moon Glow in the festive months. The signature motif used here is a lovely Floral creeper that has stunning Zari Taar Jaali stitch. Rest of the motif is done using Shadow, Ghaspatti, Chanapatti, Keel, Phanda etc. The saree has a detailed border running all through the saree, and the signature motif rests on the palla, as well as one of them also rests on the shoulder, like a brooch. The saree is filled with little Bela blossoms in white. Stars of Mukaish add to the deeply beautiful charm of this saree. It is an unconventional colour for festive and wedding season, and yet one that will stand out gracefully, with a stately charm. Saree is further finished with Kingri gota lace in silver, and we will also provide a 1 metre approx. running blouse piece.

The term is typically used for moodboards in film making, however, taking inspiration from there, it has been used by Global Luxury houses for perfumes with deep notes. We always wanted to explore Chikankari outside the ambit of classic, and create more varied moodboards, of which Noir is the perfect one, to give depth to this beautiful needle art. POSHAAK (about the dress): Noir is a Tussar Silk Chikankari Kurta in Black hue. This Kurta has a beautiful neckline of SwarnaPaatra jaali work, with Zari Taar Jaali. The front of the kurta has an old motif of Flower Vase with rare stitches & masterpiece Jaali work on one side (in place of front pocket). POSHAAK (about the saree): Jambumani or Amethyst saree is a lilac coloured Tussar Silk beauty, embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work. The palla has our Bijli boota motif put together like a Rangoli or Alpana. Bijli boota is our motif commissioned on an archived centuries old art work. The motif has Zari taar ki jaali amongst other prized stitches. A small Bijli boota accompanies the larger one all through the palla & body of the saree. The border & palla of the saree have an antique 100 year old plus bel boota running all through the saree, that has extremely prized Zari taar jaali & murri stitches!! A masterclass border. But the highlight of this masterpiece is the Bel Boota falling down from the shoulder; delicate and anointed with some of the rarest stitches, this boota is like the rice paste alpana we make outside our homes. The embroidery is done with darker lilac shade, making it stand out, and stars of Mukaish are embroidered lovingly with the embroidery to resemble lit diyas on Deepawali. Saree is further finished with Pure Handwoven Mulberry Silk selvedge in beautiful Berry Pink, providing just the right contrast, and we will also provide a 1 metre approx blouse piece in same fabric and same colour.

Even as we though about it, it was amply clear to us that this is only possible on Tussar Silk from Bhagalpur looms. Tussar Silk is one of the most perfect fabrics for antique quality Chikankari; it is appropriately supple, tenacious, luminous at the same time, & yet it's earthy texture provides a rich background for elegant stitches of Chikankari, and in gemstones colour we want. Harinmani is Sanskrit word for Emerald. This beautiful light Emerald saree is an Heirloom Piece for your wardrobe, that will create the wearer's own heritage till they wear it, that they can hand down to generations that will love to showcase it in a private viewing perhaps!! POSHAAK (about the saree): Harinmani is our first set of Dhanlakshami Chikankari saree on Handspun and Handwoven Tussar Silk, a dream that we had been working on for past 2 years. The pallu has very old archived motifs, re created recently in our unit. The stitched used are of 3 broad quality: Embossing, Surface Texture and Hand CutWork. The palla has a rare quality of “ulti bakhiya” or Reverse Shadow that is now used extremely less, as higher embroidery filament count and “chaalu/rough” embroidery style started making it look very vulgar; but with the fine handwork that Meiraas employs and 2 taar Resham Chikankari, the result is stunning, rare and exquisite. The stars of Mukaish anoint this saree strategically. If the palla is viewed from the top, it gives the impression of an ancient, well laid out city!!! The beautiful light emerald saree (an auspicious colour for all weddings and festivals), is finished with complimenting yellow Tussar silk selvedge. Golden Trellis is our heirloom collection of Mukaish work that was historically done once upon a time in Awadh region, but is not done any more. Golden Trellis is a result of, one of the many research projects we are working upon simultaneously. We know some might not see light of the day (although we firmly believe that everything can be revived if we just have the right patience and the will to keep going), some will prove to be false tales - a mirage of a narrative built for dramatic value and nothing more...but some, like Golden Trellis will be a reality that can be translated to fabric yet again, even if in a small way, even if a shadow of its one time glory...at least there will be a start. Golden Trellis is part of the Art & Antiquities Project undertaken by Meiraas. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
  • Heirloom Full Jaal Mukaish: While Mukaish as a craft has mostly now become an embellishment to Chikankari, we at Meiraas have been trying consistently, to introduce this beautiful craft in all its individual glory, & in more heritage yet functional ways to wear it, to increase the longevity and heirloom value of each piece. Mukaish Jaal Dupattas on Silk are stand alone Heirloom Dupattas, that are versatile to be paired with any Kurta.
  • Mukaish Hand Embroidery with proper "ghutaai" - this means Mukaish embroidery has been rubbed using old technique of filling pebbles in a bottle and rubbing on the embroidery, instead of new age roller press method. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaing the look of the garment for much longer time.
  • Handspun Handwoven Tussar Silk: Thigh reeled, Handspun, Handwoven soft Tussar Silk from the looms of Bhagalpur, Bihar has been used as a base for these dupattas.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Poetry etched in fabric, Golden Trellis alludes to the once opulent courts of the ancient royalties of India. Trellis is the jaali like window pattern, a signature architecture in heritage monuments of the Golden Era. This museum quality piece of legacy bound, wearable art will a pride for any one who owns it. POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Handloom Tussar Silk Dupatta embroidered beautifully with the Trellis (jaalidaar window) Pattern Mukaish (Chheenta Mukaish) all over & finished with Gold kingri gota lace detailing (not visible in images) on the daaman of the Dupatta. The dupatta shade is natural beige colour of Tussar yarn. It is a beautiful Heirloom piece that works perfectly well standalone with any Kurta - Chikankari, Banarasi, Plain Tussar, Chanderi, etc. This one dupatta is versatile to dress up and down and adds the elegance that only Heirloom Pieces can.
