KHAYAL (moodboard):
Paan is a very endearing moodboard of Lucknow, let alone the rest of Bharat. Paan holds not just aesthetic value for us, but it is also considered auspicious due to its various health benefits. The betel leaf is enjoyed amongst all sections of society, and has especially been patronised by the Royals of Lucknow.
Shahi Paan, which was akin to Art rolled inside the auspicious Betel Leaf, had the paan makers of that time apply the best of their culinary expertise to create a gilauri that was worthy of the Deity of the temple, which later travelled to Royal courts. This gilauri was especially wrapped with hand beaten pure silver foil called Warq.
Our Shahi Paan motif & the kalgi adorning atop it, is an homage to those Royal Beedas of the ancient past that are still in existence.
POSHAAK (about the dress): Shahi Paan natural Tussar Silk kurta has a stunning statement back of Paan and Kalgi motif, all archival motifs, that can be seen displayed in National Crafts Museum, New Delhi. Although our motif is much bigger, as that is how hand carving happens now.
Laced with very intricate detailing, the stunning motif on the back, is balanced by a beautifully minimal neckline & sleeve line. Jasmine flowers motifs adorn the front of the kurta, making it a regal & subtle piece that is perfect for Festivities & Weddings.
The kurta is paired with Glazed Cotton pants in the same shade. It adds depth & character to classic Chikankari, & makes it a novelty, without taking away from the core essence of the craft.
Additional Details: The Kurta is Made on Order only. Please feel free to give your custom sizing (please specify body or garment sizing), in case you don't find your perfect fit in our size chart.
The Kurta will be accompanied with a pair of plain Glazed Cotton Pants in same shade as Kurta. You can choose to make a pyajama or a pant; please put this option in the customer note.

“There is a dialogue exchange in one of my favourite director, Satyajit Ray's, historical classic based on my city, Lucknow, Shatranj Ke Khiladi. The scene is like this - General Outram (portrayed very effectively by British actor Sir Richard Attenborough), the British appointed Resident at Lucknow, is conversing with a British doctor and legal practitioner, Ferra, on the ways to annex Awadh. During the conversation, General Outram, a true Brit, remarks on the perfume that the Nawab wears, which he calls "extraordinary" in sarcasm, but complains that his uniform reeks of it, even 3 months after the interview with the Nawab Wajid Ali Shah. Ferra remarks that the perfume is " attar", a Damask Rose Parfum made locally in Awadh. The slight on this fabulous perfume from Awadh was hurtful, yet expected from a character like Outram, who did not understand concepts of Indian aesthetics and was brought up to demean them. My mind however got stuck on Ferra's explanation of "Perfume of Damask Rose". My personal collection of perfumes is only of Ittar from Awadh - Khus, Gulaab, Sandal - being my absolute favourite. I always wanted to incorporate their name into a luxury piece created in Meiraas. So here is presenting a whiff of Damask Rose - The Gulaab Ittar Dupatta ” - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas.
A true museum art piece, the Gulab Ittar dupatta, is an exemplary piece of Luxury Chikankari. Created on supple Handwoven Tussar Silk, the dupatta is dyed in the shade of dark Kaner Gulaab, and embroidered upon with a lovely Coral Pink Orange resham thread.
The highlight of this luxury dupatta is the fantastic Jaali work with Gold Qasab taar (jaali stitch made using zari filament vis a vis thread, which means it is more difficult, rare and time taking to create). The Gulab Ittar Dupatta is finished on either daaman with crochet lace dyed in the same colour. It is a fragrance of true art!!
P.S: Email us at namaste@meiraas.com if you wish to get a Kurta made to go with this dupatta. We will take the discussion forward.

A true museum art piece, the Sandal Ittar dupatta, is an exemplary piece of Luxury Chikankari. Created on supple Handwoven Tussar Silk, the dupatta is crafted on the natural shade of Tussar Silk, a Golden beige, as balmy as Sandal, and embroidered upon with the same coloured resham thread.
The highlight of this luxury dupatta is the fantastic Jaali work with Gold Qasab taar (jaali stitch made using zari filament vis a vis thread, which means it is more difficult, rare and time taking to create). Meiraas Noir Chikankari Kurta in Bold, Black hue. The Tussar Silk Kurta has some of the finest Resham Chikankari embroidery & is an outstanding piece of art.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
Old, classic motifs: The Kurta uses old classic motifs of Chikankari, away from the commercial market mores. This Flower Vase motif seen here is almost a 100 years old & has more of an English than typical Awadh touch.
Concept Work: Introduction of Noir moodboard in Chikankari, which will explore darker, deeper hues to push the design envelope further.
Sustainable fabric base - Tussar Silk
Bespoke stitching.
KHAYAL (moodboard):
Noir is a term used for dark or with darker shades. The term is typically used for moodboards in film making, however, taking inspiration from there, it has been used by Global Luxury houses for perfumes with deep notes. We always wanted to explore Chikankari outside the ambit of classic, and create more varied moodboards, of which Noir is the perfect one, to give depth to this beautiful needle art.
POSHAAK (about the dress): Noir is a Tussar Silk Chikankari Kurta in Black hue. This Kurta has a beautiful neckline of SwarnaPaatra jaali work, with Zari Taar Jaali. The front of the kurta has an old motif of Flower Vase with rare stitches & masterpiece Jaali work on one side (in place of front pocket). The same motif is present on either sleeves & back, making this one stunning & bold kurta.

Golden Trellis is our heirloom collection of Mukaish work that was historically done once upon a time in Awadh region, but is not done any more. Golden Trellis is a result of, one of the many research projects we are working upon simultaneously. We know some might not see light of the day (although we firmly believe that everything can be revived if we just have the right patience and the will to keep going), some will prove to be false tales - a mirage of a narrative built for dramatic value and nothing more...but some, like Golden Trellis will be a reality that can be translated to fabric yet again, even if in a small way, even if a shadow of its one time glory...at least there will be a start.
Golden Trellis is part of the Art & Antiquities Project undertaken by Meiraas.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
Heirloom Full Jaal Mukaish: While Mukaish as a craft has mostly now become an embellishment to Chikankari, we at Meiraas have been trying consistently, to introduce this beautiful craft in all its individual glory, & in more heritage yet functional ways to wear it, to increase the longevity and heirloom value of each piece. Mukaish Jaal Dupattas on Silk are stand alone Heirloom Dupattas, that are versatile to be paired with any Kurta.
Mukaish Hand Embroidery with proper "ghutaai" - this means Mukaish embroidery has been rubbed using old technique of filling pebbles in a bottle and rubbing on the embroidery, instead of new age roller press method. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaing the look of the garment for much longer time.
Handspun Handwoven Tussar Silk: Thigh reeled, Handspun, Handwoven soft Tussar Silk from the looms of Bhagalpur, Bihar has been used as a base for these dupattas.
KHAYAL (moodboard): Poetry etched in fabric, Golden Trellis alludes to the once opulent courts of the ancient royalties of India. Trellis is the jaali like window pattern, a signature architecture in heritage monuments of the Golden Era. This museum quality piece of legacy bound, wearable art will a pride for any one who owns it.
POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Handloom Tussar Silk Dupatta embroidered beautifully with the Trellis (jaalidaar window) Pattern Mukaish (Chheenta Mukaish) all over & finished with Gold kingri gota lace detailing (not visible in images) on the daaman of the Dupatta. The dupatta shade is natural beige colour of Tussar yarn. It is a beautiful Heirloom piece that works perfectly well standalone with any Kurta - Chikankari, Banarasi, Plain Tussar, Chanderi, etc. This one dupatta is versatile to dress up and down and adds the elegance that only Heirloom Pieces can. A perfect hand me down too.
Imp: This dupatta is natural Tussar beige colour. If you want this coloured to a shade of your choice, then drop us an email at namaste@meiraas.com

KHAYAL (moodboard): Deepmala translates to a "Garland of Diyas" or Earthen lamps, one of the most therapeutic and energising sights of Deepawali festival. There is not one soul who can say that the lit rows of Diyas with their soulful flame does not invoke a sense of calmness, positivity, love and joy. It is one of those moments of joy that is not ephemeral. Do you know why? Because the silent flame of the Diya makes you realise that this is how your Aatman is inside your Body. The realisation brings the relativity & connectivity!! We wanted to capture the glow of Diyas on a Diwali night through a Mukaish saree, and here we did it through DeepMala.
POSHAAK (about the saree): Beautiful supple Tussar Silk saree has been adorned with innumerable stars of Mukaish. This is a very high quality handcrafted Mukaish saree, unlike most of work that is now available in the market. Each dot of Mukaish has been finely rubbed to make them settle properly in the fabric & invoke beautiful lustre. The saree is dyed a lovely shade of Mustard Yellow & finished with Gold Zari Gota Lace (tested & pure).
