KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. The shade chart of the colour Green you can get in Lucknow's own lingo, are endless. Dhaani, Elaichi, Khus, Panna, Aam Pana, Jaljeera, Pistai...phew the list is endless. As soon as one would refer to a Pistai colour for even textiles, the mind would wander to the sweetness of Pista Kulfi, that brings immense joy in harsh summer months, and that feeling propels to shop window for the colour that is evocative towards the said memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This moon like glowing Chanderi dupatta has Sea Green Resham Chikankari allover, with a fusion of two miniature motifs, the Paatra (leaf), and Champaa flowers. A generous smattering of Mukaish daana makes the dupatta glow with a wondrous & celestial light. The dupatta is perfect to wear with any neutral colour attire or same colour ensemble (last image attached with same colour kurta for reference purpose only).
Important: You can email us at namaste@meiraas.com if you wish to plan a Kurta or Ensemble with this dupatta. The last image with a kurta is for reference purpose only. This listing allows only the Dupatta to be ordered

KHAYAL (moodboard): Champaai is a coloquial and beautiful colour name for White, and is commonly used in Lucknow's language. Champaai is used to describe anything that is beautiful, soft & pristine white, like Champa flowers. This word has been often used to describe lovely feet of ladies or their glowing complexion, by the poets of Lucknow; on the other hand, it has also been used to describe the all White on White Chikankari attire worn by a lady of society, who further decorates herself with pearls and diamonds. Her clothes are then called "Champaai Joda" (all white ensemble). While it could be said "Safed Joda", calling it Champaai makes it even more poetic, & shows appreciation for the styling done by the lady. This was the inspiration behind this soft jewel of a dupatta.
POSHAAK (about the garment): This moon like glowing Chanderi dupatta has White Resham Chikankari allover, with a fusion of two miniature motifs, the Paatra (leaf), and Champaa flowers. A generous smattering of Mukaish daana makes the dupatta glow with a wondrous & celestial light. The dupatta is perfect to wear with an all white attire or any colour attire. This is one shade & look that will be a classic hand me down, and one where you cannot go wrong.

Meiraas Bestseller Chikankari design since its first launch in 2018, the Power of Silence, Dance of the Cranes motif has been one of our most requested motifs. This is a Chikankari Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi with Rose and Pistachio embroidery.
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. Exclusive Dance of the Cranes Meiraas motifs carved following all processes.
3. Handloom Chanderi
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
The outskirts of the historic & charming city of Lucknow are equally beautiful in their rustic charm. These ancient Indo Gangetic plains are lush with greenery & boasts of one of World's oldest agrarian civilisation. Watching the emerald landscape of Awadh is a surreal experience, even more so in winters when dotted with the migratory bird population, the most notable of these being the Siberian Cranes, that never enter the city Lucknow, but stay just outside, especially in Nawabgunj Bird Sanctuary. With this concept in mind, we wanted to design motifs that glide in the night sky in a Yin & Yang appeal; we found the desirable art style of these motifs, very surprisingly, in Japan. The ancient Japanese Art style is dramatically circular in design, & it is here that we found our serendipity, the right manner to display the Nawabgunj Cranes. The motif of Chikankari is an exclusive design of Meiraas launched in 2018. Borrowing from Japanese palette, we designed the motifs keeping Chikankari stitches in mind, that best romance the gliding flight of the Siberian Cranes.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The cranes are falling, gliding, flying & finally in a circular Dance of Love at the statement back, in this Meiraas Exclusive Kurta made on Handloom Chanderi. The pastel pink Kurta has embroidery in fresh green colour, making it a unique pastel on pastel play Kurta.
The Kurta is accompanied by a Dupatta in Handloom Organza fabric with Gold and Silver Zari Ganga Jamuna borders. The Dupatta has a stunning Crescent Moon motif with Cranes flying atop it in two diagonal konia, and floral bootas allover the body.
If you wish to add plain Glazed Cotton pants in same shade to match, you can select the same from Glazed Cotton Plain Pants and in Customer Note mention: Please make Pants to match the selected set. We will do the needful
This post has Kurta (stitching & slip is complimentary) that can be shopped. Pants can be added extra, as explained above.

KHAYAL (mood-board):
The city of Lucknow, & its popular cultural iconography is defined by two leitmotifs; one of them is the mysterious and glorious architecture of Rumi Darwaza, that finds no parallel from any gateway in the World. The second is the interesting story of the Taj or the Crown of Lucknow, that caused a political turmoil in the Awadh Riyasat, back in the days.
We wanted to create a historical piece of wearable art that capture both these iconographies in one neat creation, & the result was the moodboard of Rumi Taj kurta.

The classic White on White Chikankari embroidery meets its Noir version with Meiraas created Noir Chikankari moodboard of Black on Black Chikankari. Dark, perfectly decadent and desirous Noir...
The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):
1. Skilled Resham Hand Embroidery on absolutely novel motif art.
2. Antique quality statement Chikankari motifs used
3. Handloom Linen
4. Conceptual Chikankari work, that might someday be housed in a museum of crafts, or a well researched coffee table book.
KHAYAL (mood-board):
Noir is desire, Noir is decadence, Noir is dark, Noir is a mood. Chikankari Noir is a moodboard introduced by Meiraas as a reversal of the classic White on White Chikankari. The Noir version is the Black Swan to the classic White Swan Chikankari. It is rarer, deeper and goes to darker depths of mystery.
Noir was first introduced as a concept on Silks (Tussar & Chanderi), and now it is has its equally stunning Pure Linen version with exemplary antique 2 taar embroidery done on antique motifs with masterclass detailing.
POSHAAK (about the dress):
The front of the kurta has a rich antique neckline with embossing stitches of Chikankari like ghaspatti, murri, keel, phanda, that helps the dark embroidery stand out. The back has a stunning antique motif of a psychedelic flower arrangement, that gets its dark version in rare stitches of embossing & hand cut work like hathkati with gold Zari Taar.
It is one incredible masterpiece & will be the most preferred wear for almost any occasion, by simple dressing up & down of accessories.

Kabootarbaazi (Pigeon flying) is inherent to the culture of Lucknow and Awadh. KHAYAL (mood-board):
When you think of Chikankari, you invariably think of the Classic fine quality thread work, that once defined the look of this embroidery . There is an ethereal charm of that era of Chikankari, that seems like a whisper of the soul whose hands embellished the fine fabric. They carry the joy, the tears, the stories, the candour that the artisans shared, while the needles brought alive each Flower, Knot, Trellis; but how much more beautiful would it be, if this whisper of Fine Chikankari was not just relegated to beautiful coffee table books & museums as part of archived history of Textiles. It is heart wrenching to see beautiful embroidery motifs of Chikankari housed in Textile Museums, to be gawped at, but designated to a fate where they shall never be part of someone else’s story.
Shahi Paan Kurta is our endeavour from The Art and Antiquities Project of Meiraas, for which we travel through museums, seek crafts in Temples and study Historical archived images, so that the Queens in us can make these designs a part of our unique story again

Artisan Skill Enhancement: The dresses are embroidered by our Rajnigandha unit, who till 2019 were used to working on what is termed as "chaalu kaam" or fast moving Chikankari goods. They had never worked on such a skilled piece that helped them invest more creative hours & therefore earn better piece with creative satisfaction
Paan Motif: Usage of the much less used Paan Motif in regular work also, so that this motif can be revived.
Handloom Chanderi fabric: Making this dress a Handwoven & Handcrafted delight
KHAYAL (Moodboard): "When I was going to design Kalidar Dresses for my portfolio, I started with seeing what was available in Chikankari Kalidar Dresses in general. I was quite disappointed then seeing the spangly and strictly One Time Wear Kalidars that lacked classic appeal and clearly could be worn in very loud gatherings. It is definitely not the style of Meiraas.
Here I would also like to divulge, that at the risk of losing business, I have put my foot down on making “gowns” (whatever that means) and One Time Wears as much as I could.
For my Kalidar Dresses, I revisited some films from 1960s, where Kalidar Frocks, both Knee Length and Calf Length were worn by vintage actresses. The ease, the charm, the subtlety and the flow - I wanted that. I will especially recall Sadhana’s short one in Mere Mehboob, and Padmini’s beautiful orange one in Mera Naam Joker, in a Qawali song. Smart, easy to dress up and down, laidback and classic.
Something you can wear anywhere, anytime.
Here’s presenting a series on one of my favourite themes - Dolce Far Niente aka The Sweetness of Doing Nothing”
