They had never worked on such a skilled piece that helped them invest more creative hours & therefore earn better piece with creative satisfaction
  • Paan Motif: Usage of the much less used Paan Motif in regular work also, so that this motif can be revived.
  • Handloom Chanderi fabric: Making this dress a Handwoven & Handcrafted delight
KHAYAL (Moodboard): "When I was going to design Kalidar Dresses for my portfolio, I started with seeing what was available in Chikankari Kalidar Dresses in general. I was quite disappointed then seeing the spangly and strictly One Time Wear Kalidars that lacked classic appeal and clearly could be worn in very loud gatherings. It is definitely not the style of Meiraas.
Here I would also like to divulge, that at the risk of losing business, I have put my foot down on making “gowns” (whatever that means) and One Time Wears as much as I could. 
For my Kalidar Dresses, I revisited some films from 1960s, where Kalidar Frocks, both Knee Length and Calf Length were worn by vintage actresses. The ease, the charm, the subtlety and the flow - I wanted that. I will especially recall Sadhana’s short one in Mere Mehboob, and Padmini’s beautiful orange one in Mera Naam Joker, in a Qawali song. Smart, easy to dress up and down, laidback and classic.

  • Re creation of an archival style of Craft Confluence, prevalent in Nawab Era.
KHAYAL (mood-board): The Honeycomb reflects nature's best lesson of Singularity Pattern - there is always a loop left open from where the possibility to Re-Start exists!! Isn't that thought reflective of Human Power of Resilience? The Hive Mind. The Collective Consciousness. When done on the Leheriya pattern, that denotes Sands of Time, it creates a profound wearable art, and one that was very much worn in late 17th Century too! POSHAAK (about the garment): The Kurta fabric is Leheriya pattern in beautiful hues of Lime Green. On top of this, honeycomb pattern Mukaish embroidery has been done, that enhances the beauty of this artisanal fabric. The dupatta is plain Chanderi with Mukaish in Lime Green, to help break the monotony and keep the attention on the tunic. We will stitch the kurta for you, if you desire. Handloom Chanderi Kurta with golden dots of Deepmala Mukaish coupled with pure Organza Silk Dupatta with very rare Mukaish Satkhaani Jaali embroidery. THE SUSTAINABILITY QUOTIENT (TSQ):

KHAYAL (moodboard): Deepmala translates to a "Garland of Diyas" or Earthen lamps, one of the most therapeutic and energising sights of Deepawali festival. There is not one soul who can say that the lit rows of Diyas with their soulful flame does not invoke a sense of calmness, positivity, love and joy. It is one of those moments of joy that is not ephemeral. Do you know why? Because the silent flame of the Diya makes you realise that this is how your Aatman is inside your Body. The realisation brings the relativity & connectivity!! We wanted to capture the glow of Diyas on a Diwali night through a Mukaish creation, and here we did it through DeepMala. POSHAAK (about the saree): A stunning Oxblood Red Chanderi Kurta with Deepmala stars of Mukaish on the front panel and sleeves looking like glowing diyas. The back has single star Mukaish allover. KHAYAL (mood-board): The Power of the Next Move!! Taking inspiration from celebrated Indian author, Munshi Premchand's story, Shatranj Ke Khiladi, we created Bisaat. Celebrated Indian Filmmaker, Satyajit Ray, also made a classic adaptation of this story in 1977. Bisaat or the chessboard was the biggest conversation starter in Awadh; this past legacy has been recreated on this showstopper kurta. Painstaking research work was done to recreate these motif that you can read here Falaknuma POSHAAK (about the dress): Red & Black motifs of Chess stand boldly against the butter white backdrop of the Kurta -  Power of Silence. The back has one statement motif of Black & Red Chessboard fitted inside a Paisley Shape to draw the Awadhi connect to the design board. KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful. The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti. It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic black coloured gowns or jumpsuits as well. KHAYAL (moodboard):Elizabeth Bennett is the central protagonist of  Pride & Prejudice (1813), a legendary classic by Jane Austen. She is one of the five lovely Bennett sisters, & is now considered amongst the greatest heroines of English Classic Literature. Elizabeth is "second only to Jane in beauty & countenance", yet her most endearing aspect is her cynicism tempered with her sweet nature. With all the traits that Jane has & keeps each separate from the other, Elizabeth's character is a beautifully aligned composition of each one of them in a neat & witty package. This is why this buttery Chanderi Dupatta has three diverse colours of Pink, Yellow & Blue in one Motif, that symbolises Elizabeth the best, & as an evolved version of Jane. POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta is a grander version of Elizabeth Dupatta made by us sometime ago. The butter white Chanderi drape has a fusion of 3 unique miniature motifs, the Bijli boota in big & small size, and a miniature leaf petal boota. 3 soft pastel shades - Sky Blue, Lemon Yellow and Rose Pink, create each motif, even the most miniature one. KHAYAL (moodboard): Champaai is a coloquial and beautiful colour name for White, and is commonly used in Lucknow's language. Champaai is used to describe anything that is beautiful, soft & pristine white, like Champa flowers. This word has been often used to describe lovely feet of ladies or their glowing complexion, by the poets of Lucknow; on the other hand, it has also been used to describe the all White on White Chikankari attire worn by a lady of society, who further decorates herself with pearls and diamonds. Her clothes are then called "Champaai Joda" (all white ensemble). While it could be said "Safed Joda", calling it Champaai makes it even more poetic, & shows appreciation for the styling done by the lady. This was the inspiration behind this soft jewel of a dupatta. POSHAAK (about the garment): This moon like glowing Chanderi dupatta has White Resham Chikankari allover, with a fusion of two miniature motifs, the Paatra (leaf), and Champaa flowers.
