Khayal (Moodboard): Raat ki Raani or Night Jasmine is a fragrance that we associate Lucknow deeply with. Used very liberally in our homes, since childhood, it is a fragrance after dusk, that we had grown accustomed to. Come monsoons, the sultry evenings in the homes of this regal city, would be wafting in the strong and sweet scent of this flower shrub. Amongst many fragrances, which are signature of Awadh culture, Night Jasmine is most certainly an underrated, but a prominent one. The flower motif in this fabric is an imagination of the memories that this flower would evoke with its mellow scent. Poshaak (About the fabric): This Chikankari and Mukaish Top/Blouse fabric is an ethereal White on White beauty, with neat floral rows of embroidery on front, sleeves & back. The back has one stunning motif, a representative of Floral Creepers coming together to form a heart, at the back. Khayal (Moodboard): Lehenga has been part of the cultural milieu of our country, since the times of Ayodhya and Sri Ram, and Kathak dance; maybe the dress even predated that era and got a grander version with the first known Kathak performance for the beloved scion of Ayodhya, after his coronation. Since that time, Lehenga, which is essentially a wide flared skirt, has seen many avatars. It is worn in beautiful, bright cottons, with tie and dye craft in many cultures, to this date. Its dressier versions include Handcrafted premium embroidered or woven varieties in jewel tones or plush rich hues, meant to stun the onlookers with its elegance, class and grace. Wedding Lehengas soon started replacing the Wedding Sarees in many places, and today have become a signature look for the Brides in India. The charm of a Lehenga skirt, Dupatta and Choli is so unbeatable, that it has its versions in almost all crafts of the country, the latest addition being Chikankari and Mukaish. A Chikankari Lehenga is like an ethereal fantasy come true. Embroidered richly upon Pure Georgette Silk, it looks like a beautiful dream, a garden of senses if you will, lit up with thousands of fireflies (Mukaish), rendering the wearer look nothing short of an angelic vision. Poshaak (about the dress): This is a 12 Kali (flare) Lehenga skirt only, which has very fine and beautiful work of waves made in shadow stitch and floral shadow stitch embroidery, among other stitches, alternating between each kalis. The lehenga is made in 3 taar embroidery, and is exceptionally neat and fine. Each stitch will come alive as the wearer moves in it. What differentiates an exceptionally fine lehenga from a regular variety is its attention to detail, even in its corners and borders; even the embroidery done on the length of the Kalis, adds to its overall finished look, which is crucial in any sustainable handcrafted garment. Mukaish must add to the charm, and not become a mainstay, overshadowing the Chikankari; both the crafts need to speak a symbiotic language for the whole ensemble to come alive. This skirt is finished in Free Size and has a traditional waist tie up. It is finished with a good quality Cotton lining for all day comfort, and has been given a high quality buckram in the hemline to give the skirt the required body. KHAYAAL (moodboard): The Khayal or Aatmamanthan behind keeping this collection under the name Dhanlakshmi was very clear. We wanted to make a repository of Heirloom Sarees, where we can create colours & palettes that signify the opulence of Sri Lakshmi. After successfully venturing into Gold, Silver hues, and Pearl, Firoza, Precious stones like Tourmaline, Agate hues, we wanted to include Gemstone shades. Our lands are blessed with a variety of natural minerals and gemstones that have immense energy stored within them. Formed under the envelope of Bhoodevi's (Earth) womb, they radiate and reflect back her energy and lend them to the wearer. Our Chanderi sarees, adorned with heirloom quality Chikankari, are named after these soft and deeply spiritual stones. Jambumani or Amethsyt is a beautiful Lilac hued clear looking gemstone. This beautiful Lilac rich Chikankari Tussar Silk saree with antique quality embroidery, is the perfect connect to that emotion with us, that resonates with carrying forward a revered Textile Tradition. POSHAAK (about the saree): Jambumani or Amethyst saree is a lilac coloured Tussar Silk beauty, embroidered with extremely delicate and prized stitches of Conceptual Chikankari Art work. The palla has our Bijli boota motif put together like a Rangoli or Alpana. Bijli boota is our motif commissioned on an archived centuries old art work. The motif has Zari taar ki jaali amongst other prized stitches. A small Bijli boota accompanies the larger one all through the palla & body of the saree. The border & palla of the saree have an antique 100 year old plus bel boota running all through the saree, that has extremely prized Zari taar jaali & murri stitches!! A masterclass border. But the highlight of this masterpiece is the Bel Boota falling down from the shoulder; delicate and anointed with some of the rarest stitches, this boota is like the rice paste alpana we make outside our homes. The embroidery is done with darker lilac shade, making it stand out, and stars of Mukaish are embroidered lovingly with the embroidery to resemble lit diyas on Deepawali. Saree is further finished with Pure Handwoven Mulberry Silk selvedge in beautiful Berry Pink, providing just the right contrast, and we will also provide a 1 metre approx blouse piece in same fabric and same colour.

Tussar Silk is one of the most perfect fabrics for antique quality Chikankari; it is appropriately supple, tenacious, luminous at the same time, & yet it's earthy texture provides a rich background for elegant stitches of Chikankari, and in gemstones colour we want. Harinmani is Sanskrit word for Emerald. This beautiful light Emerald saree is an Heirloom Piece for your wardrobe, that will create the wearer's own heritage till they wear it, that they can hand down to generations that will love to showcase it in a private viewing perhaps!! POSHAAK (about the saree): Harinmani is our first set of Dhanlakshami Chikankari saree on Handspun and Handwoven Tussar Silk, a dream that we had been working on for past 2 years. The pallu has very old archived motifs, re created recently in our unit. The stitched used are of 3 broad quality: Embossing, Surface Texture and Hand CutWork. The palla has a rare quality of “ulti bakhiya” or Reverse Shadow that is now used extremely less, as higher embroidery filament count and “chaalu/rough” embroidery style started making it look very vulgar; but with the fine handwork that Meiraas employs and 2 taar Resham Chikankari, the result is stunning, rare and exquisite. The stars of Mukaish anoint this saree strategically. If the palla is viewed from the top, it gives the impression of an ancient, well laid out city!!! The beautiful light emerald saree (an auspicious colour for all weddings and festivals), is finished with complimenting yellow Tussar silk selvedge. THE SUSTAINABILITY QUOTIENT (TSQ): - EXCLUSIVE AMER MOTIF CREATED SEEING AMER FORT, JAIPUR - SKILLED KAMDAANI WORK - PURE ORGANZA KHAYAAL (moodboard): Amer The Rajasthani Floral art of Amer motif has mesmerised us, since we first laid eyes on it, during our travel in 2010. It is simple, yet an attractive motif of a flower vase encased inside an aala. The original motif is made using molten glass as paint. We always wanted to showcase this motif in a Muakish saree in exactly the manner of the original artwork in Amer Fort. This saree is reminiscent of the Maharanis of India & their Royal Splendour. The dainty Organza or Chiffon sarees, the delicate Mukaish embroidery on them, the vintage Basra pearls around their slender necks and their regal style!! One of our most beautiful memories of a past gone by. POSHAAK (about the saree): Clouds of White Organza are held down with the glamour of Gold!! Golden Trellis is our heirloom collection of Mukaish work that was historically done once upon a time in Awadh region, but is not done any more. Golden Trellis is a result of, one of the many research projects we are working upon simultaneously. We know some might not see light of the day (although we firmly believe that everything can be revived if we just have the right patience and the will to keep going), some will prove to be false tales - a mirage of a narrative built for dramatic value and nothing more...but some, like Golden Trellis will be a reality that can be translated to fabric yet again, even if in a small way, even if a shadow of its one time glory...at least there will be a start. Golden Trellis is part of the Art & Antiquities Project undertaken by Meiraas. The Sustainability Quotient (TSQ):

Heirloom Full Jaal Mukaish: While Mukaish as a craft has mostly now become an embellishment to Chikankari, we at Meiraas have been trying consistently, to introduce this beautiful craft in all its individual glory, & in more heritage yet functional ways to wear it, to increase the longevity and heirloom value of each piece. Mukaish Jaal Dupattas on Silk are stand alone Heirloom Dupattas, that are versatile to be paired with any Kurta.
Mukaish Hand Embroidery with proper "ghutaai" - this means Mukaish embroidery has been rubbed using old technique of filling pebbles in a bottle and rubbing on the embroidery, instead of new age roller press method. This one method ensures long lasting Mukaish. In itself Mukaish is more sustainable craft that sequins or "salma sitaara" embroidery, as Mukaish never comes off, maintaing the look of the garment for much longer time.
Handspun Handwoven Tussar Silk: Thigh reeled, Handspun, Handwoven soft Tussar Silk from the looms of Bhagalpur, Bihar has been used as a base for these dupattas.

KHAYAL (moodboard): Poetry etched in fabric, Golden Trellis alludes to the once opulent courts of the ancient royalties of India. Trellis is the jaali like window pattern, a signature architecture in heritage monuments of the Golden Era. This museum quality piece of legacy bound, wearable art will a pride for any one who owns it. POSHAAK (about the dupatta): Handloom Tussar Silk Dupatta embroidered beautifully with the Barfi Pattern Mukaish (Chheenta Mukaish and Tiki Mukaish) all over & finished with Gold kingri gota lace detailing (not visible in images) on the daaman of the Dupatta. The dupatta shade is natural beige colour of Tussar yarn. Heritage Mukaish work re created: This work is known as Gukhru work . It has not been done in India or is extremely rarely done anymore. This is overlapping mesh Jaali work done in Mukaish. Its karigars are not alive now, and some of the karigars who learnt this art do not work in India. This was re created when one of them came on a small visit to his family in India. He has taught some amount of work to our small group of artisans in Lucknow. This work was historically done in Lucknow only. What can be better sustainability than finding out a lost artwork in a craft & helping revive it again to wearable pieces, & most importantly in pieces that can be part of today's Heritage Builders' private collection; this will ensure the craft's continued sustainability.
