Through this entry range collection of ours, we want you to step into the oasis of slow summer living of yesteryears that we are all trying to bring back collectively!! POSHAAK (about the product): Nawabi is a tunic designed taking references from Bengal style neckline that was very much in vogue right uptil 70s. Largely used for mens' fashion in the past, we have made the design gender neutral by creating it for women. This is very fine count Amber Charkha spun and Handloom Cotton Chikankari Kurta with beautiful chanapatti, shadow, phanda (hand cutwork) stitches, with Mother of Pearl button detailing. The shade of the Kurta: ROSE Rose like the wine - Rose!! Beautiful subtle pink for laidback summer afternoons with chilled rose in glass flutes. Important:

Chikankari garments are translucent by nature as they are mostly made on lighter cottons & in natural white or pastel shades. To wear a slip underneath is subjective to the wearer's comfort

KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful. The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti. It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic black coloured gowns or jumpsuits as well. KHAYAAL (moodboard): This collection of sarees was originally designed, keeping in mind, the timeless glamour look of 1950s sarees of Mukaish. From Queens like Maharani Gayatri Devi, who wore much subtler version and colours of these, to legendary singers like Begum Akhtar who wore deeper & richer colours, albeit simple Mukaish, but done allover..to Bollywood heroines of that era who wore much heavier Mukaish (as most films were black & white and they wanted embroidery to show even in that camera), the timelessness of Mukaish embroidery in that era inspired these sarees. Even then, most of these sarees were made on Pure Georgette fabric to give a luxurious fall. POSHAAK (about the saree): This lovely deep wine coloured saree has Mukaish hand embroidery all over. The palla has the Meiraas Exclusive motif of Kabootarbaazi (Flight of the Pigeons), in a flight pattern on the palla. The saree is rich with detailing of these motifs which are very difficult to create using Daana Mukaish. The subtle & classy appeal of this saree enables it to worn to cocktail events in weddings as well as jazz evenings or formal dinner dates, by simple change of accessories.

KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): The Antique Ambi motif is a Century plus old motif. The Jaali work on this motif is done using Qasab or Zari filament, which is the toughest level of Jaali stitch done on any fabric. To top this, this intricate hand cut stitch has been done on cloud like pure Organza Silk. Teasing the fabric apart to the precise extent, and creating perfect trellis pattern with Zari Filament (which is almost invisible to the eye), is the speciality of this heirloom Dupatta. KHAYAL (Moodboard): "When I was going to design Kalidar Dresses for my portfolio, I started with seeing what was available in Chikankari Kalidar Dresses in general. I was quite disappointed then seeing the spangly and strictly One Time Wear Kalidars that lacked classic appeal and clearly could be worn in very loud gatherings. It is definitely not the style of Meiraas.

Here I would also like to divulge, that at the risk of losing business, I have put my foot down on making “gowns” (whatever that means) and One Time Wears as much as I could.

For my Kalidar Dresses, I revisited some films from 1960s, where Kalidar Frocks, both Knee Length and Calf Length were worn by vintage actresses. The ease, the charm, the subtlety and the flow - I wanted that. I will especially recall Sadhana’s short one in Mere Mehboob, and Padmini’s beautiful orange one in Mera Naam Joker, in a Qawali song. Smart, easy to dress up and down, laidback and classic.
