POSHAAK (about the product): Nawabi is a tunic designed taking references from Bengal style neckline that was very much in vogue right uptil 70s. Largely used for mens' fashion in the past, we have made the design gender neutral by creating it for women. This is very fine count Amber Charkha spun and Handloom Cotton Chikankari Kurta with beautiful chanapatti, shadow, phanda (hand cutwork) stitches, with Mother of Pearl button detailing. KHAYAL (moodboard): Lucknow has its own way of naming various colours; a colloquial shade chart, if you will. No one says Pink or Hot Pink over there, but we have grown up hearing names like Roohafza Gulaabi, Gajari, Rani and Gulkandi, for various shades of Pink. As soon as someone would say Gulkandi, the mind would immediately travel to the sweetness of the indigenous condiment in Paan, or in summer shakes. There was a particular, brillinat Pink shade of Gulkandi shake, that made us name this dupatta in its memory. Luckhnavis pay more attention to the feel evoked by a colour's name, than its literal accuracy. This is why Lucknow has its own way of calling shade names, which are also mentioned by the city's historian, late Padmashree Dr Yogesh Praveen ji, in his books. POSHAAK (about the garment): This brilliantly pink Dupatta has 2 motif play of antique miniature peacock, and jasmine flower in an interplay upon the buttery Chanderi fabric. The dupatta is locked using a ghaspatti & shadow bel on all 4 sides. It has a generous smattering of Mukaish embroidery, that makes it look even more beautiful. The dupatta has stitches like Orma, Ghaspatti, Hool, Phanda, Murri stitch in the Peacock motif alone!! The jasmine flower has stitches like Keel, Kangan and Ghaspatti. It is a beautiful wrap that will not be limited to be worn on Indian wear only, but can be taken on classic black coloured gowns or jumpsuits as well. KHAYAAL (moodboard): This collection of sarees was originally designed, keeping in mind, the timeless glamour look of 1950s sarees of Mukaish. From Queens like Maharani Gayatri Devi, who wore much subtler version and colours of these, to legendary singers like Begum Akhtar who wore deeper & richer colours, albeit simple Mukaish, but done allover..to Bollywood heroines of that era who wore much heavier Mukaish (as most films were black & white and they wanted embroidery to show even in that camera), the timelessness of Mukaish embroidery in that era inspired these sarees. Even then, most of these sarees were made on Pure Georgette fabric to give a luxurious fall. POSHAAK (about the saree): This lovely deep wine coloured saree has Mukaish hand embroidery all over. The palla has the Meiraas Exclusive motif of Kabootarbaazi (Flight of the Pigeons), in a flight pattern on the palla. The saree is rich with detailing of these motifs which are very difficult to create using Daana Mukaish. The subtle & classy appeal of this saree enables it to worn to cocktail events in weddings as well as jazz evenings or formal dinner dates, by simple change of accessories.

KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): The Antique Ambi motif is a Century plus old motif. The Jaali work on this motif is done using Qasab or Zari filament, which is the toughest level of Jaali stitch done on any fabric. To top this, this intricate hand cut stitch has been done on cloud like pure Organza Silk. Teasing the fabric apart to the precise extent, and creating perfect trellis pattern with Zari Filament (which is almost invisible to the eye), is the speciality of this heirloom Dupatta. KHAYAL (mood board): "When i had designed the first Tunic & Palazzo set (it was yellow and my personal set), i was very new into this work & having grown up seeing Chikankari wanted something radically different in motifs and layout, yet something that does not defeat or overpower the elegant & laidback mood that the craft is identified with & loved for. I continue to be a rebel in my thoughts about designing Chikankari pieces & by now that has become a signature style of Meiraas. This ensemble was designed to be something you can slip on easily in casual or formal meetings in India, & as comfortably carry them in SoHo, New York or a French Countryside in a vineyard possibly. The idea was my rebellious little mind that wanted tradition to carry on, yet break from the pattern and do it" - Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Design, Meiraas POSHAAK (about the product): Soft cotton Chikankari Tunic (Kurta) in Meiraas Exclusive Patta Boota Motif. The interesting part of this Motif Embroidery is the clever confluence of two styles of embroidery in one motif, both native to Lucknow, Aari & Chikankari. The Flower is filled with Aari stitch, whereas the rest of the motif is done in Chikankari. Both seamlessly come together in a perfect symbiosis. About the Tunic (Kurta): The length is 41 inches for each Kurta. This length can be shortened 2 inches only on request. The motifs are 3 on hemline, one each on either shoulder. Please mention your size as per size chart on checkout. About the Palazzo (Pants): The waistband is belt style (flat) in front & elastic at the back. The motif comes 1 each on each leg.
