KHAYAL (moodboard): If Chikankari embroidery is Poetry on Textile, then Jaali stitch is its Evocative Drama!! Jaali is an exceptionally brilliant optical illusion created on fabric by the hands of the karigars, where they replicate the trellis pattern of windows. Windows through which the first rays of sunshine sieve and enter a dark room, and spread their warmth in an alluring pattern. Windows through which the silver glow of a full Moon, enters in a cosmic colour play of calmness. Jaali has more spiritual connect with the artisans than we can think; maybe this is what makes the stitch the high point of Chikankari art. POSHAAK (about the garment): The Antique Ambi motif is a Century plus old motif. The Jaali work on this motif is done using Qasab or Zari filament, which is the toughest level of Jaali stitch done on any fabric. To top this, this intricate hand cut stitch has been done on cloud like pure Organza Silk. Teasing the fabric apart to the precise extent, and creating perfect trellis pattern with Zari Filament (which is almost invisible to the eye), is the speciality of this heirloom Dupatta. KHAYAL (moodboard): Have you ever seen Lucknow's famous 500 plus year old dessert recipe, Malai Gilauri? For those who have not, it is Malai or Khurchan cooked over hours, that is removed from the sides of a paan, when cooled down. The layer of cooked Malai is then decorated with many beautiful condiments - pistachios, almonds, sugar, kewra water - before rolling into a Gilauri. The process just before making the Gilauri is a beautiful sight. This motif with the finest stitches of most beautiful & complex embroidery, and Jaali stitch, reminds us of the Gilauri, just before getting folded and bound into a mouthful of sweet bliss. POSHAAK (about the garment): This dupatta has 3 Malai Gilauri motifs along the centre length, making it look full, yet not overwhelming, so that the extremely beautiful Gilauri motif looks clutter free and neat, resting upon delicate Organza.
