“Out of all Hrishikesh Mukherjee films, one film is most unassuming of his signature style; the film is Anupama (1966). The songs, story, acting, direction, everything is beautiful, as is the uncharacteristic Black & White frame for a mid 60s film. In the film, that i saw in my childhood on Doordarshan, there is a scene with Batik craft. I asked my parents about Batik back then & was shown a wall hanging in our room with Batik Shri Ganesh ji. Batik was a common craft seen in middle class home, even back then, when they wanted to display a piece of art in their living rooms. This Batik, done on Handwoven Chanderi, is not as intricate as many I have seen, but is quite stunning piece of wax resist printing with delicious shades & on handwoven base” – Vidhi Rastogi, Head of Creative, Meiraas
